Nashua remains undefeated in MVC

The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua (BGCGN) wrestling travel team improved to 5-0 on the season with Merrimack Valley Conference dual meet wins over Tewksbury and Tyngsborough last weekend.

Nashua topped both Tewksbury and Tyngsborough on the performances of eight Nashua wreslters who scored victories in both meets: Keggan Mills (BGCGN, 72 pounds) Kevin Melanson (Pennichuck, 77), Cameron Bennett (Elm St., 82), Marcel Laplante (Nashua Catholic, 92), John Sweeney (Elm St., 107), Connor Sullivan (Nashua Catholic, 117), Connor McBride (Pennichuck, 130) and Joe Chimelski (Nashua Catholic, 140).

Posting one win over the two meets were Ryan Rice (Pennichuck, 87), Jake Valeri (Fairgrounds, 97), Brandon Levesque (Hudson, 112), Zack Seppi (Fairgrounds, 122) and Evan Manns (Nashua Catholic, 155). Wilson Pellott and Colin O’Connor rounded out the Nashua roster.

MYA TOURNAMENT

BGCGN’s youth team (Kindergarten-4th grade) participated in the Merrimack Youth Association Elementary School Tourney. Colin O’Connor, Brody Mills and Trevor Froburg were undefeated champions in their weight classes, while Nate Zalzal, Ryan Jigargian, Aren Kennedy and Brody Burke won second-place, silver medals. Also competing for the Nashua team were Hayden Brand, Parker Fleury, Garret Fleury, Drew Felury, Jack Zabriskie, Mike Zabriskie, Donovan Webster, Devin Webster, Owen Duda, Jaiden Dupont, Tyree Durham, Zach Rioux, Isaac Colon, Jason Messier, Isaiah Johnson, Hunter Chenard, Kevin Keleshian, Luc Blondeau, Jeremy Bridge, Ryan Gagnon, Alex Anastas and Garrett Hillard.

JON SPOHN INVITATIONAL

BGCGN sent several of its veteran youth wrestlers to the competitive Jon Spohn Invitational at Salem High School, which included over 400 wresters from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont.

In the 7th-8th grade division, Joe Chimelski (140 pounds) was a champion, while Marcel Laplante (95) was a runner-up and Kevin Melanson (75) took third.

In the 5th-6th grade division, Ryan Rice placed first, followed by fourth-place copper medalist Cole Nickerson.

Ryan Jigargian was the 80-pound champion in the 3rd-4th grade division.

In the K-2nd grade division, Nate Zalzal and Keegan Mills won first place medals, while Owen Duda and Patrick Melanson both placed second. Cole Nickerson and Jake Valeri also competed for the Nashua squad.

CHELMSFORD OPEN TOURNEY

At the Chelmsford tourney, members of BGCGN’s three “at school” middle school teams represented Nashua well, with four BGCGN grapplers earning first place in the “Select” (experienced) class, including Elm St. Middle School’s Cam Bennett (85 pounds), Dean Kennedy (110), Brian Toupin (125) and Evan Manning (150) of Hudson.

Runner-ups earning silver medals were Elm St.’s Wilson Pellott (140), Dan Breese (165), Mike Small (190) and Nick Helwig (100). Zack Seppi (Fairgrounds, 125) and Nick Henderson (Hollis, 85) placed third and fourth, respectively. Third grader Garrett Hillard was the champion in his 3rd-4th grade weight class.
