PANTHERS SPLIT PAIR

The Nashua Panthers Bantam II team split a pair of Granite State League games this past weekend. After dismissing the Northern Cyclones 8-1, the Panthers fell to the Twin Valley Flyers 5-2.

In a penalty-filled game in Hudson on Saturday evening, special teams carried the day for the Panthers against the Cyclones as they scored three short-handed goals and three power-play goals. The Cyclones scored the first goal of the game before the Panthers roared back to score the next eight. Mike Powers started the onslaught with an unassisted short-handed goal followed by an unassisted even-strength goal. Stevie Barton gave Nashua a two score lead with another short-handed goal. Powers doubled the lead with two power-play goals before Ben Hadley added a power-play goal and the Panthers third short-handed goal of the game. Ben Woodward finished off the scoring for Nashua. John Butler, Hadley, Barton and Powers all picked up assists. Declan Stone, Michael Belanger and Brad Lyman led the defense that held the Cyclones to one goal.

After starting the Granite State League season with 15 straight wins, the short-handed Panthers finally lost a league game, falling to the Twin Valley Flyers, 5-2.

Butler scored the first goal of the game on a wrap-around, assisted by Belanger. Twin Valley answered by scoring the next four goals.

In the third period, Nashua tried to mount a comeback as Jacob Boisvert lit the lamp, with an assist to Brett Estrella, to cut the Flyers lead to two, but Nashua could get no closer.

HOLLIS I TOPS BILLERICA

The Hollis I team returned to Dual State League action with an 8-4 win over Billerica (Mass.) I.

The Cavaliers scoring efforts were lead by Isaac Rogers with four goals and three assists and Trent Costa three goals and three assists. Shannon Paquette also had three assists.

The Cavs turned in a strong defensive efforts led by goalie Benjamin Goolsby with help from the defensive pairings of TJ Vitullo and Dean Poulin and Max Sears and Sean Kelly.
