Hollis PeeWee I goes 2-1 over last weekend

Hollis defeated the Manchester Flames (4-1) and East Eagles (3-0) before falling to Concord-Carlisle (Mass., 1-0) last weekend.

Goal scorers against Manchester were Evan Wendt, Darren Costa, Brett Pitre and Daniel Ash. Assisting on goals were Jack Sheilds, Tom Johnson, Aidan Conlon, Ash and Jeremiah Latham (two). Mitchell Young stood tall defensively in front of goalie Curtis Richall.

In the win over NH East Eagle, Robert LaVine, Pitre and Ash all scored with help from Latham (two), Cameron Richall (two), Costa and LaVine. Strong defense was played by Young, Johnson and Wendt. Andrew Marquis was hustling all over the ice, while Curtis Richall had another strong game in net.

Nashua Bantam II wins a pair

The Nashua Panthers Bantam II youth hockey team won a pair of Valley League games this past weekend, defeating Malden (Mass.) 3-1 and Danvers (Mass.) 5-2.

After a scoreless first period against Malden, the Panthers got on the scoreboard first when Jake Fagan found the back of the net, finishing a breakout started by Vinny Silvestri and Jacob Boisvert. After Malden knotted the score, Nashua regained the lead in the third period when Stevie Barton took one end-to-end. Ben Woodward added an insurance goal when he banged home a blast from the point by Barton.

Against Danvers, Woodward opened the scoring for the Panthers when he finished off a feed from Mike Powers and Brett Estrella. Ben Hadley doubled the Nashua lead, assisted by Boisvert and Silvestri. After Malden cut the advantage to one goal, Powers netted the next two goals to open things up. Silvestri finished off the Panther scoring with a one timer on a nice feed from Hadley.

The two wins ended a four game slide in Valley League play and improved the Panthers record to 4-4-1 in the Valley League Red North National standings.

Nashua Bantam I posts 0-2-1 weekend

The Nashua Panthers I tied Danvers (Mass.) 3-3 before falling 3-2 to Burlington (Mass.) and 1-0 to the Manchester Flames last weekend.

The Panthers came from behind to tie Danvers. Goal scorers were David Kelley, Neil McNulty and Matt King with assists coming from Jake Latham, Jordan Gingras, Matt Ovenden and King. Solid defense was played by Paul Callahan and Sean Engel. Blaine Washburn did a great job in net.

In the loss to Burlington, Matt Fortin and Latham had a goal and assist each. Strong goaltending by Washburn gave the Panthers a chance to win this game, along with solid defensive efforts by Nick Lauren and Gingras.

Against the Manchester Flames, Adam Murphy and Ovenden did a great job on the penalty kill.

AAA Flames pick up two wins

The Sports Arena 1996 AAA Flames defeated the Hanover Wild and New England Moose in last weekend’s hockey action.

The Flames jumped out to a three-goal lead in the first period and never looked back in a 7-1 win over the Hanover Wild. Matt Moriarty, Andrew Kehas and Noah Duplessis had goals in the opening period. Assists went to Moriarty (two), Mark Feeney and Parker Anderson. The Flames scored two in each of the final periods with Connor Powell notching a hat trick and Kehas adding his second of the game. Assists on the Powell and Kehas goals went to Josh Roy (two), John Foote, Tim Tetrault, Mike Donlan and Feeney. The Flames used team play and excellent passing to create scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

The Flames played unselfish, disciplined hockey to defeat the New England Moose 7-2. Tetrault and Powell set up Roy for a goal just 17 seconds into the first period. Moriarty and Foote each added opening-period goals with assists to Kehas, Powell and Roy. Roy struck again in the second off a Foote pass. Powell scored twice in the third period while Moriarty notched his second of the game. Third period assists were scored by Foote (2), Roy, Kehas, Anderson and Feeney.

Ian Beliveau and Mitchell Schirch shared net-minding duties for the Flames.

Nashua Squirt majors start New Year 2-0-1

Nashua Squirt Majors started the New Year right going 1-0-1 in GSL action. In Game 1 against the Manchester Flames, the Majors found themselves down by three starting the third period and fought back to take the lead, but ultimately the Flames tied it up. Austin King scored the opening goal assisted by Owen Hastings. Ryan Fitzgerald had a great game, lighting up the lamp twice with assists by Hastings (two), Eric Langley and Brendan Martin. Joey Paige and Brendan Martin scored the other two with assists from Jeff Gerhard (two), Eric Pica and Paige. Goalie Yegor Bublik closed the door with pressure late in the third securing us the point.

In Game 2 of GSL weekend action, the Majors and the Northern Cyclones did not disappoint. The Cyclones got on the board first in the opening period with a dandy breakaway goal by Mitch Pellitier, but that would be all goalie Curtis Wirbal would allow. Paige scored the first goal assisted by Martin and Gerhard. Defenseman Pica recieved a pass from Paige and blasted one past the Cyclones goalie for the game-winner giving Nashua the 2-1 victory.

In NEHL action, the Majors defeated the NH Avalanche AAs 11-3.

Quinn Tucker (one goal, two assists), Martin (2-2), Nate Newton (1-1), Gerhard (1-2), Pica (1-1) and Paige (4-1). Mike Zogin also scored and Hastings and Langley earned additional assists.
