St. Chris wins Holiday Festival

Over the holiday school vacation, the St. Christopher girls Mite team of fifth and sixth graders took first place in the Derry SportZone Holiday Basketball Festival.

After winning three games to advance to the semifinals, St. Chris defeatedLondonderry B, and then Hudson in the championship game.

Members of the tournament champion St. Chris squad are: Jo Coffey, Lauren Dubois, Marie Laplante, Victoria D’Anthony, Emma Williams, Adeze Okorie, Victoria D’Anthony, Izzy Piercy, Meredith Hall, Jessica Zalzal, Jackie O’Connell, Isabelle Gosselin and Carina Davidson.

NASHUA JR. BIDDY

Hawks 13, Broncos 12

For the Hawks, Ty McCallum led the way with nine points, Casey McNally and Calvin Levesque each had two.

Knicks 30, Wildcats 16

The Knicks were led by Alex Morales who scored 10 points, while Tyler Bernard added eight points.

Cougars 21, Clippers 16

The Cougars were led by Tony Agor with 8 points. Brandon Jamieson and Alex Durand chipped in with 4 points each. The Clippers were led by Conrad Coutu with 8.

Pistons 23, Cougars 24

James Bolton of the Pistons helped even the score in the second period chipping in six points. The Cougars, Nathan Cormier, had a strong offense game finishing with five points. Ben Greenwood made his first basket of the season and continues to play strong defense for the Pistons.

Pistons 20, Panthers 33

The Pistons played a great game against the Panthers on the big floor at Amherst Street. Jake McDevitt and Geoffrey Lynch scored their first baskets of the season. Josh McDevitt had a fabulous game defensively and offensively make a strong move to the hoop resulting in a three-point play for the Pistons. Jack Vogel, Zach Hureau and Jordan Donnelly scored a basket each for the winning team. Both teams played great and had super sportsmanship throughout.

Pistons 22, Hornets 31

Mason Moore (eight points), Andre Laplante (four) and James Bolton (10) led the Pistons. Ryan Vermette was an assist machine for the Pistons. Defensively Josh McDevitt, Jake McDevitt, Kevin Barrows and Ritwik Baral did a great job on the glass. The Hornets were led by Richie Mercado and Shane Puleo with eight points each. Also scoring for the Hornets were Cam McIntire (two), CJ Grondin (four) and Nathan Demers (four).

Mustangs 37, Falcons 34

Leading the Mustangs on offense was Jay Patel with a game-high 16 points. Also scoring for the Mustangs were Andrew Penkala (seven), Vishvak Vadival (six), Matthew Thibault (four) and Rory Curran (four). On defensive, the Mustangs’ Joe Calomo, Nick Brown and Tyler Brown forced several turnovers, while Alex Nicholas and Logan Boucher worked hard on the boards. The Falcons received a big game from Josh Reeder (10).

Hawks 32, Nuggets 20

Hawks got solid performance from Ty McCallum (12 points) and Casey McNally (eight). Yassine Jakib chipped in with four.

Knicks 32, Clippers 22

The Knicks Tyler Bernard led the way with 15 points. Tim Rose chipped in with 10 markers.

NIGHTHAWKS

Fourth-graders fall to Litchfield

The fourth grade Nashua Nighthawks opened the second half of the season with a 33-23 loss to Litchfield, Leading Nashua was Xahn Frater with eight points and John Champa and Scyler Boykins with six and five points, respectively. Defensively, Nick Harrison and Garrett Bierien were solid for Nashua. Nashua then traveled south to tip-off against Tewksbury (Mass.). Playing their best game of the season were Nick Page, Anthony Costa and Jeffrey Reza. Clay Medling dominated the boards with a game-high nine rebounds. Tilak Patel and Mike Meads were relentless on defense, forcing Tewksbury into 12 turnovers.

Fifth-graders win a pair

The fifth grade Nighthawks improved to 8-0. Game 1 was a 54-26 win over Wilmington, Mass. Nashua then beat Timberlane 64-27. The offense was led by DJ Frechette, Rohan Patel, Mike Levasseur, Kevin Genao and Cyrus Forcier. Max Osgood controlled the boards for the Hawks in both games. On defense, Stephan Lambert led the way with nine steals. Alex Moody, Zach Bodwell and Zachery Boyer were also solid on defense and forced several turnovers.

Sixth grade tops Westford (Mass.)

The sixth-grade Nighthawks best a talented Westford (Mass.) squad. Chad Olivieri led the Hawks with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Ryan Penkala (six points) and Ben Seegel (seven) also had very solid offensive performances. Jacob Deresha, Garret Bozek, Timmy Brown, Casey Fisher and Jarrett Wilson were also instrumental in the Nashua offense, and each contributed points in the victory. On defense, Collin Morrow, Illya Scott, and Patrick Sullivan used their speed to cause several second half turnovers. Nick Koch took player-of-the-game honors for his defense, blocked shots, and rebounding.

Eighth-graders improve to 2-2

The eighth-grade Nighthawks overcame a three-point deficit to earn a victory and improve their season record to 2-2. Solid team defense and rebounding allowed Nashua to take control of the game in the third quarter. Leading the scoring for Nashua was Ashea Bittle (17 points), Tim Preston (16), Christian Filonow (seven) and Cameron Cox (six).
