Nighthawks capture St. Joe’s holiday tournament

The Nashua Nighthawks fifth-grade boys basketball team went 3-0 and won the fifth- and sixth-grade division at the St. Joseph’s of Nashua Holiday Tournament. Nashua opened up with a convincing victory over the sixth-grade team from Amherst 51-15. Game 2 was a tough battle against St. Elizabeth Seton of Bedford, with Nashua coming out on top 38-33. The championship game pitted the Nighthawks against the host, St. Joseph’s Mites, with the Hawks winning 34-21. Stephan Lambert played his best basketball of the season, both offensively and defensively. The Nighthawks were led offensively by Rohan Patel, Mike Levasseur, DJ Frechette, Max Osgood and Cyrus Forcier. On defense, the Nighthawks received tremendous efforts from Alex Moody, Zach Bodwell, Zachery Boyer and Colin Morrow.

GIRLS BIDDY

Panthers 34, Knights 11

The Panthers were led by Amanda Stumpf and Tenysha Garvin, both with eight points. Alexis Ivory added six markers and Shannon March chipped in with four points. The Knights were led by Neysa Ouellette with four points.

Pacers 30, Hawks 17

Christina Sulfaro led the way for the Pacers with 12 points and five steals and Alexis McNally added six points, six rebounds and one block.

Panthers 34, Suns 24

The Panthers were led by Amanda Stumpf, who had 14 points, and Haleigh Therrien, who had six markers. The Suns were led by Elizabeth Ux, who had 13 points, and Teddy Kramer added seven points.

Panthers 32, Hawks 10

The Panthers were led by Amanda Stumpf’s eight points and Emily Lafave added six markers. Shannon March chipped in with five points.

BOYS BANTAM

Colts 76, Suns 72 2OT

The Colts came back from 20 points down, going in the second half and led by three points with one second to go when the Sun’s Jared Maloney tied it with a 3-pointer to send the game into the first overtime. Maloney hit a another 3 at the very end of the first overtime to force a second overtime. In the second overtime, Austin Saremi and Brian Colby helped the Colts pull away for the win. Saremi finished the game with 26 points and Colby chipped in with 22. Maloney led all scorers with 27 and followed by Matt Chapman with 19 for the Suns.

Blue Devils 67, Knicks 54

Alec Auten led all scorers with 19 points for the winners, followed by Dom Lebel with 12 points while Eric Sherman and Spencer Rancourt each chipped in with eight markers. Kevin Morrissey had 17 points for the Knicks.

BOYS BIDDY

Sonics 35, Celtics 8

The Sonics were led by Christian Sullivan with eight points and Patrick Sullivan with seven points. Caden Daigle and Zach Anzel led the Celtics in scoring and played tough defense

Sonics 41, Saints 27

The Sonics received balanced scoring from Val Pagan with 13 points while Jeremy Ouellette with 12 points and Jordan Buckmire with 10 points. The Saints were paced by Sean Dezurick, who had seven points, and Sami Desai, who had six points.

Cavs 54, Warriors 48

The Cavs were lead by Tim Preston with 26 points, 18 of which came in the second half. Also contributing were Caine Rivera with 10 markers and Chandler Doucette with nine. Also playing well where Conner Haney, Mike Lentz and Mike Muchemore, The Warriors where lead by Myles Reed with 12 points and Tyler Boudreau, who added 10.

Cavs 50, Bucks 14

The Cavs where lead by Tim Preston’s 16 points. Chandler Doucette added 10 markers and Jordon Powers chipped in with eight.

Braves 53, Saints 46

Jeffrey Mitchell scored 18 points and Ben Levesque had 14 points to lead the Braves to their first win. Michael Taylor had six assists. The Saints were led by Devon Lambert, with eight points, and Chris Dezvrick, who also had eight points.

Braves 48, Sharks 43 OT

Jeffrey Mitchell hit a buzzer-beater to send this game into overtime. The Braves went on to win, with Mitchell hitting another jumper and Michael Taylor securing the win with three foul shots. The Sharks’ Robbie Holbrook and Mike Kernan led all scorers with 12 points each. Cam Pagrette contributed 10 points.

Jazz 32, Royals 22

Nick Plante, Zak Jenkins and Connor Baldasarro scored six points each to lead a balanced attack as the Jazz won their third straight game. Kevin Genoa scored a game-high 15 points for the Royals.

Jazz 42, Cougars 29

Connor Baldassarro led all players with 16 points to help the Jazz to their fourth straight win. Jake Goudreau and Demitri Jackson pitched in with six points each. Leading the Cougars with eight points was Rayquann Alleyne.

Warriors 45, Knicks 20

Myles Reed scored a game-high 13 points for the Warriors. Joe Bernard led the Knicks with six points.

Gulls 40, Globetrotters 38, 2OT

Brian Provencher led all scorers with 22 points for the winners while Sam McCarthy led the Trotters by netting 16 points of his own. Kyle Reardon, Michael Dubien and Owen Amigo all chipped in four points a piece for the victors while Brandon Barrett contributed 12 points and Max Coffin dropped in two points for the Trotters. 

Gulls 36, Nationals 33

Devin Leonard led all scorers with 18 points but it wasn’t enough for the Nationals. Kyle Reardon led the Gulls to an exciting win with 13 points while Owen Amigo had eight points and Noah Toland added six markers. Ryan Naber had nine points and Nick Ianuzzo had four points for the Nationals.

Lakres 58, Cougars 24

Ben Walker scored 19 points and Danny McCoy added 13 markers to lead the Lakers. Nick Bourbeau played well defensively for the winners. The Cougars got seven points from Robert Mondi and six points from Zack Milot, while Dan Soler played solid defense.

BOYS JUNIOR BIDDY

Hornets 27, Jets 20

The Hornets beat the Jets 27-20. After the 1st quarter the score was 7-6 Jets with Connor of the Jets racking up all 7 points.  The Hornets pulled out ahead and never looked back with 9 out of 12 players contributing for baskets.  Mason Miller (2 pts) and Nate Seegal (5 pts) made some key free throws down the line and Nnaji Obinelo (pts), Richie Mercado (6 pts) and CJ Grondin (2 pts) all had some key rebounds.  Also contributing for the Hornets were Quinton Aguilar (2 pts), Cameron McIntire (2 pts),  Nathan Demers (2 pts) and Alex Bozek (4 pts).  The Jets received hoops from Michael (8 pts), Jake (4 pts) and Drew (2pts). 

Cougars 24, Pistons 23

One of the most exciting Jr. Biddy games of the young season took place between the Pistons and Cougars. A back and forth game continued for 30 minutes and at the final whistle the Cougars came out on top by one point. The Cougars were led by Evan Holland with 7 points. Brandon Jamieson and Nathan Cormier added 5 points each. The Pistons spread the wealth between 5 players. Andre Laplante, Josh Morin, James Bolton, Jayden Larose, and Mason Moore all had 4 points each

Mustangs 43, Broncos 14

 The Mustangs defeated the Broncos behind the offense of Dallas Kastens (11), Vishvak Vadivel (11), Jay Patel (7), Andrew Penkala (6), and Matthew Thibault (6).  Also playing well for the Mustangs were Alex Nicholas (2), Rory Curran, and Joe Calomo.  Logan Boucher, Braedon Smith, and Jason Widfeldt controlled the boards and played aggressive defense.  The Broncos received solid performances from Sam Charron (4), Colin Manning (4), Jacob Fong, and Anthony Rios (2).

Falcons 28, Sonics 24

Matt Franco led all scorers with 15 points and was a monster underneath the boards with 20 rebounds.  Ben Morin added 6 points and 10 rebounds as well.  Very good game to watch and be a part of.

Mustangs 37, Sonics 24

The Mustangs entered the holiday break with a victory over the Sonics.  The Mustangs utilized a well balanced offense and received points from Andrew Penkala (8), Jay Patel (8), Vishvak Vadivel (7), Braedon Smith (7), Dallas Kastens (5), and Alex Nicholas (2).  On the defensive side of the ball the Mustangs received great efforts from Nick Brown, Rory Curran, and Joe Calomo.  The Sonics also displayed a well balanced offense and received points from six different players

Lakers 34, Spurs  27  

A challenging game for the Lakers, but they pulled out a win in overtime. The game was close every quarter and both teams struggled with foul trouble.  Xahn had 14 points, followed by Skye with 10 to lead the Lakers to break the winning streak of the determined Spurs.  Michael Patierno made a notable basket at the end of a quarter, beating the buzzer. Number 2 from the Spurs led his team with 6 points. Intense game, both teams will anxiously await meeting again in January.
