NASHUA – An era has ended in local high school hockey, and a legendary one at that.

Bishop Guertin announced today that longtime boys head hockey coach Gary Bihsop would be retiring from the job after an incredible run of 35 seasons.

Bishop guided the Cardinals to seven state titles, the last one just three months ago, a 1-0 overtime win over Concord.

Bishop began coaching at BG in 1991-92, and won 514 games. His 500th came just before Christmas this past December.

“To Bishop Guertin, I thank the administration for the opportunity to coach the sport I love,” Bishop said in a statement. “And of course, thanks to all my former players with whom we shared lasting memories of victories and defeats.”
