HAMPTON — Elle Emery was rushing off the field with some of her teammates to attend Winnacunnet High School’s Senior Night festivities following a Division II girls lacrosse quarterfinal on Thursday.

Despite the quick exit, Emery will forever remember her final home game with the Warriors.

Emery finished with three goals and a team-high three assists as second-seeded Winnacunnet advanced to the Division II semifinals for the fourth straight year with a 12-4 win over No. 7 Merrimack.

“This was a huge win for us,” Emery said. “Our team really came together. We practiced all week and made it happen today. I am really proud of this team.”

Winnacunnet (16-3) will face No. 3 Goffstown, a 9-8 quarterfinal winner over Kennett, on Saturday in a Division II semifinal scheduled for 4 p.m. at Manchester Memorial High School.

The Tomahawks season, which was good otherwise, ends at 10-7. Merrimack’s Sophia Richard finished with 10 saves in goal.

“We played well,” Winnacunnet head coach Glenn MacKenzie said. “I thought it was a little chippy, but all in all, we executed the way we wanted to. We played well on defense.”

MacKenzie believes that if the Warriors continue to perform the way they did against Merrimack, their quest for a second straight state championship is well within reach.

“If we continue to play defense the way we have and ride the way we did today, we’re going to be fine,” MacKenzie said. “Merrimack is one of the stronger teams in our division, so getting by them is a good steppingstone for us.”

Junior attacker McKinley Fowler led the Warriors with four goals, while sophomore midfielder Emily Arlington joined Emery with three goals. Freshman Hannah Curtin added two.

“It’s so important to have depth,” Emery said. “We have feeders and we have scorers. We’ve really worked hard, and I’m glad to see that people are getting confident out there and putting those shots in the net.”

Fowler scored twice in the first quarter, while Emery broke a 1-1 tie with 3:03 remaining in the opening frame.

Curtin scored both of her goals in the second quarter, while Fowler, Emery and Arlington each added one as Winnacunnet took an 8-3 lead into halftime.

Fowler, Emery and Arlington each scored in the third quarter as Winnacunnet held the Tomahawks scoreless and carried an 11-3 lead into the final 12 minutes.

Winnacunnet goalie Benten Lyford made five saves.
