WINDHAM — The Nashua High School South boys lacrosse team seems to be settling not-so-old scores.

They were beaten by Nashua North early last month, and ended the regular season by scoring 17 goals against the Titans. The game before, they lost 16-5 to the Windham Jaguars, but guess what — the Panthers got sweet revenge at the best possible time, in the Division I tourney.

No. 9 South, down 5-1 at the half, rallied for a 10-9 win, setting up a quarterfinal matchup Saturday at the No.1 Bedford Bulldogs.

“I’m so proud of them that they showed up, and showed out,” Nashua South Head Coach Will DeLanoy said. “The first half was super rough, but we just settled in and did what we needed to do. We played together as a team.”

The two keys to Nashua’s success was sophomore goaltender Bryce Stuart and faceoff specialist senior Raiden Nuy-Chao, who won 12 faceoffs on the day, winning his team possession when they needed it the most.

“It’s huge to win faceoffs,” DeLanoy said. “Our opposition could score, but I know we’re gonna win a faceoff and potentially give us more options to score.”

As for Stuart, he registered 12 saves on the day, with the most important of them coming in the fourth quarter to help his team hold onto the victory, despite playing through an injured thumb.

“It felt good to win today,” Stuart said after the game. “They had beaten us twice this year, but we fought hard, came back and got a good win.”

“He sat on his head making point blank saves in crucial moments.” Delanoy said.

But it also takes offense, and the Panthers had it. Owen Roy led the way with five goals while Raiden Nuy-Chao had two goals and three assists. Max Signoroni (goal, two assists), Grant Imbeault (goal, assist), Jason Brinley (goal), Cody Jackson and Tyler Benzekri (two assists each) got the job done.

On Saturday Nashua South will face its biggest test of the season when they take on top seeded Bedford on the road, a test that DeLanoy is ready for.

“I think this team is willing to rise to the occasion,” Coach DeLanoy said. “Take on the mantra of being the underdog, just like I told them today, and show that you’re not an underdog.”
