Tuesday was more or less the warm up to prepare for the tournament frenzy that continues today, but there were two significant events to note:

GIRLS LACROSSE

NO. 8 ST. THOMAS 21, MILFORD 4

The No. 9 Milford High School girls lacrosse team enjoyed the high of playing in their program’s first tourney game. But with that came the low of bowing to the Saints.

“First time qualifying for playoffs in program history, the girls gave everything they had,” Spartans coach Shannon Finnegan said, “and left it all out on the field.”

Olivia Lockhead scored a pair of goals for Milford (5-12) while Sheah Hansen and Maya Remella each had a goal.

Saint Thomas will host Coe-Brown in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

NO. 9 SOUHEGAN 3, NO. 8 TIMBERLANE 2

The Sabers (8-9) pulled off the mild upset, ironically avenging a 3-2 loss to the Owls just two weeks ago.

It gets harder now, as Souhegan will visit No. 1, unbeaten Salem (16-0) on Friday at 6 p.m in the quarterfinals. They lost to the Blue Devils 3-1 in Amherst but that was back on April 15.

Timberlane winds up at 8-9.
