HS ROUNDUP: HB girls tennis advances; BG boys lax rolls

We’re in that time when local high school teams are either in the final wee of their regular seasons, or are already starting postseason play.

On Tuesday, we had both in the area,and here’s the rundown:

GIRLS TENNIS PRELIMS

DIVISION II

NO. 6 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 5, NO. 11 PEMBROKE 4

The Cavs advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals at No. 3 Timberlane, with two matches cut short due to Pembroke injury/illness.

Anna Heiplik (8-0) and Max Walsh (8-4) won in singles, while the two teamed up for a strong win in No. 1 doubles.

NO. 8 BOW, NO. 9 ALVIRNE 2

The Broncos’ season ends at 7-8 after the Falcons cruised to a win. Of course Bow’s reward is it gets to visit top seed, unbeaten Souhegan in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

DIVISION I

NO. 6 DOVER 8, NO. 11 NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers at least got a match victory as the Green Wave had blanked them in the regular season. South ends its season at 6-9 after beating rival Nashua North to grab the final tourney spot.

Dover’s win ruins what would have been an all-city matchup in the quarterfinals, as the 10-5 Green Wave will be the team to visit No. 3 Bishop Guertin on Thursday.

BOYS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 16, MERRIMACK 0

Cam Hayden (four goals) continued his comeback from a leg injury as the Cards improved to 12-5.

Jack Redfern added three goals while other scorers were by Cam Vailencourt, Alex Tower, James Elia, Isaac Stutz, Zach Fortier, Josiah eman,, J.P. Dunsmoor, Drew Redfern and Sean McGarry.

BG closes out the regular season at Exeter on Thursday.

PORTSMOUTH 16, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4

Oliver Spencer, Evan Bertrand, Bennett Torgersen and Mike O’Hearn all scored in the Cavs (5-11) loss. Levi Mitchell made 19 saves with Aiden O’Hearn and Dillion Kinney playing well on the defensive side. HB hosts Timberlane on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

EXETER 14, BISHOP GUERTIN 6

The Cards fell to 9-6 as the Blue Hawks were up 11-4 late in the third quarter at Stellos Stadium.

Charlotte Accomando led BG with three goals, while McKensey Roedel, Kaylee Cruishank and Camryn Leighton got single tallies.

BG goalie Emma Smith had six saves. The Cards are at Portsmouth on Thursday while Exeter finishes the regualr season at 12-6.

BASEBALL

LONDONDERRY 5, NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Panthers drop to 8-9 after a loss to the Lancers. Max Demers led with two hits including a triple and Brendon Doughty added a hit and a RBI. Aidan O’Connor struck out seven batters in five innings. South hosts Winnacunnet on Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, COE-BROWN 0

The Cavs (15-1) used a five run third inning to lead them to their eighth straight victory. Nate Fauteux doubled, scoring one run, Marco Bergskaug grounded out, scoring one run, Keenan Myers homered to center field, scoring two runs and Matthew Bergin hit a solo home run to center field.

HB jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Jordan Morelli tripled, scoring one run, Bergskaug doubled, scoring two runs, and Bergin singled, scoring one run. Ian Sinclair earned the win allowing two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking four.

Ben George threw two innings of zero-run ball in relief giving up one hit, striking out three and walking none. HB piled up 12 hits in the game. Renzo Bergskaug, Bergin, Connor Gryniewicz and Morelli each collected two hits for Hollis-Brookline. Myers, Bergin and Bergskaug each drove in two runs. Renzo Bergskaug stole three bases. The Cavs piled up eight stolen bases for the game. HB visits Lebanon on Friday.

SOFTBALL

TIMBERLANE 17, NASHUA NORTH 0

Neha Lingadal threw for three innings allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits and struck out one. Lingadal and Maycie Hudson had one hit apiece. North (0-17) visits Merrimack on Wednesday.

COE-BROWN 15, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

Megan Eckman (hit, RBI), Lindsey Emmons (RBI), Jenna O’Connor (hit), Madelyn Sinclair (hit) and Kendall Dunn (two stolen bases) played well offensively in the Cavs (1-13) loss. Nina Giguere allowed 15 runs (13 earned) on 12 hits and struck out one in five innings. HB visits Lebanon on Friday.

SANBORN 4, MILFORD 3

The Spartans (5-10) had one snatched away from them on Tuesday. Haley Harrington had two hits including a triple, while Alivia Mazzeo and Teagan Goldstein added a double each. Mazzeo struck out five and gave up one earned run in seven innings. Milford visits Souhegan on Thursday.
