Not even rain can cool off the Bishop Guertin High School baseball team.

The Cards have been on fire for the better part of two weeks now, perhaps the hottest local team of the spring season.

Yes, they just keep winning. The Cards on Saturday captured their seventh straight, somehow getting seven innings in at Windham before the heavy rains came.

But the baseball team wasn’t the only Guertin team to take the field on Saturday, as boys lacrosse went out to UMass Amherst to take on Staples of Connecticut.

Here’s a look at both, played on a soggy Saturday:

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 6, WINDHAM 1

Brian Webb did the job on the mound for the Cards, now 9-4, as he allowed just one run on six hits, striking out four.

Bennett Spotts tossed two scoreless frames, giving up a hit with a strikeout.

And, as has been the case, BG got the hitting it needed, led by Jake Bowen (2 for 2, triple, three runs, stolen base).

Tyler Parks, who has been red-hot of late, went 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI, and Nick Wyner went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

BG hopes to keep the streak going Tuesday vs. Spaulding at Holman Stadium. Windham, coached by Nashua North alum and Silver Knights pitching coach Spencer Bergeron, fell to 5-5.

BOYS LACROSSE

STAPLES (Conn.) 9, BISHOP GUERTIN 5

The Cards (8-3) saw their five-game win streak come to an end despite a hat trick by Drew Redfern. Jack Redfern and Sean McGarry also scored for the Cards, while Hudson Schmitt had two assists.

Other assists went to McGarry and Ryan Baker. The Cards fell behind 2-0 and 5-2, clawed back to 6-4 but Staples opened up a 9-4 lead to take control.

BG has a big in-state game Monday vs. Pinkerton at 6 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.
