HS Roundup: BG tennis tops South; Panther lax falls to ‘Hawks

The Battle of the Bridge gets into the thick of things on Wednesday, but in tennis Nashua South and Bishop Guertin tangled in another city rivalry. The Cards dominated as tennis returned after a week off.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 9, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Cards (4-3) had a surprisingly easier than expected time in a sweep, with singles wins by Jack Kostansek (8-1), Evan Deyak (8-4), Jonny Perrott (8-5), Max Moynihan (8-3), Maxx Lizotte (8-6) and Jaxon Deyak.

In doubles, the teams of Kostansek/Jaxon Deyak (8-2), Lizotte/Mohnihan (8-0) and Austin Steinruck/Perrott (8-5) all won.

South’s Aksher Ganta won six games at No. 5, Jerry Primo won five at No. 3, and the team of Sean Hall/Hal Newbold won five games at No. 3 doubles.

The 3-4 Panthers take on Nashua North in the Battle of the Bridge on Wednesday, weather permitting, while BG hosts Keene.

LONDONDERRY 9, NASHUA NORTH 0

The final score was lopsided but the Titans (2-5) had a few close matches, including Connor McInerney falling 8-6 at No.2 singles and Aaddi Veerendra 9-7 at No. 4. Graham Gordon and Ben Husson each won four games.

North faces South on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7, SOUHEGAN 2

The Cavs took five of six singles to get the win between local rivals. HB winners were John Torpey (8-6), Sam Anthony (8-3), Sam Pistor (8-1), Greyson McSeveney (8-1) and Eli Mazzola (8-0), plus the doubles teams of Torpey/Pistor (8-3) and McSeveney.Mazzola (8-0).

Souhegan’s Brian Goddard won 9-7 at No.1 singles and teamed with Parker Shade for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

MERRIMACK 8, COE-BROWN 1

The Tomahawks won their third straight to improve to 6-3 as they swept singles and won two of three doubles.

Singles winnes down the ladder were Mikhail Agapov (8-1), Leon Rossman (8-0), Jeremy Nigen (8-3), Connor Miner (8-0), Felix Rattunde (8-2) and Patrick Macisaac (8-0). In doubles, Agapov/Nithin Sathappan (8-2) and Rossman/Nigen (8-1) came out on top.

GIRLS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 9, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Cards dominated as the Panthers managed to win just seven games.

Winners for BG were Anna Perrott (8-1), Georgie Howell (8-0), Kaclun Kriscunas (8-2), Lydia Miller (8-1), Dayana Cottito (8-1) and Ainsley Hood (8-0).

Prescott/Kriscunas (8-2), Howell/Miller (8-0) and Cottito/Flood (8-0) all won.

In singles, South’s Zeynep Demirdag, Riya Shroff and Piya Chokshi won two games each.

South faces North on Wednesday. BG hosts Central.

LONDONDERRY 5, NASHUA NORTH 4

The Titans lost a tough one, first splitting singles with wins by Leana Srinivas (8-1), Mariana Cajigas (8-4) and Brigette Bennett (8-3). But the only doubles winner was the Srinivas/Louise Lorillard tandem, which won 8-6.

North faces South on Wednesday in the Battle of the Bridge.

SOUHEGAN 9, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

It was a clean sweep for the unbeaten Sabers with Callie Perrin (8-2), Ori Dart (8-0), Sophia Yates (8-2), Emma Perrin (8-3), Marielah Dart (8-2) and Elli Brower (8-1) all won in singles.

Callie Perrin/Ori Dart (8-2), Emma Perrin/Marielah Dart (8-2) and Yates/Brower (8-1) all cruised.

HB’s Carlie Holt won three games at No. 4 to pace the Cavs.

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 10, PORTSMOUTH 0

Ben Geiger grabbed the win pitching six innings allowing four hits and striking out six for the Cardinals (6-4). Gavin Santos (three hits, double, two runs, two RBIs) and Caden Siraco (two hits, run, two RBIs) led the offense. BG hosts Timberlane on Tuesday.

GOFFSTOWN 3, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers lose their third straight contest after visiting the Grizzlies. Jack Ninteau, Aidan O’Connor and Max Demers (RBI) all had a hit. Demers gave up one earned run and struck out six in six innings. South hosts Bedford on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 15, RAYMOND 6

Michael Grace’s outstanding performance led the Cougars (5-2) in their road win over Raymond. Grace drove in six runs on three hits, tripling in the first inning, doubling in the fourth and blasting a three-run home run to center in the fifth. Brady Marcotte tallied four hits; while Braydon White, Nate Federico (three stolen bases), Jayden Medina, Ivan Schafer and Aiden Kepple each had multiple hits. Campbell’s offense piled up 21 hits. Campbell hosts Raymond on Thursday.

KEENE 12, ALVIRNE 4

The Broncos (1-7) see another tough loss on the road against the Black Birds. Brady Mitchell gave up 10 runs (one earned) in four innings. Alex Drown pitched the last two innings, allowing two runs (one earned). Mitchell and Matt Bebris each grabbed two hits. Alvirne hosts Portsmouth on Tuesday.

PELHAM 10, MILFORD 3

The Spartans (0-6) continue to search for their first win of the season after falling to the Pythons. Cooper Pare had two hits. Gabe St. Onge, Jack Bonafilia and Tanner Herbert had RBIs. Marek Luba had a strong performance on the mound. Milford visits Lebanon on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 11, PORTSMOUTH 5

Cayla Baldwin collected three hits, a home run and four RBIs in the Cardinals (6-3) third straight win. Chloe Sellers and Kailey Oleksak each added a home run as BG totaled 16 hits on the day. The locals scored five runs in the fourth innings.

Sellers started the game allowing three hits and two runs in three innings. Kenzi Labbe also saw some time in the circle allowing five hits, three runs and seven strikeouts. BG visits Timberlane on Wednesday.

GOFFSTOWN 8, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers (2-7) were clawed by the Grizzlies on Monday for their fourth straight loss. Maggie Donaghey took the loss allowing seven runs on seven hits in three innings. Nicki Gates tallied a hit and a RBI. Cara Leblond and Shirley Njau each collected a hit. Goffstown scored seven runs in the third inning. South visits Bedford on Wednesday.

SOUHEGAN 19, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6

The Sabers (3-3) took care of business at home with a decisive win over the Cavs (0-4). Madelyn Sinclair (double, RBI, stolen base), Jenna O’Connor (hit, RBI, two stolen bases), Nina Giguere (hit) and Lindsey Emmons (two hits, run, two stolen bases) played well for HB.

Souhegan visits Sanborn and HB hosts Oyster River on Wednesday.

PELHAM 6, MILFORD 1

The Spartans (2-4) showed some struggles on the road against the Pythons. Nadia Dutton had two hits including driving in the sole run for the locals. Livi Mazzeo and Ashley French split time in the circle striking out four. Milford visits Kennett on Tuesday.

MERRIMACK 5, EXETER 4

The Tomahawks (7-2) outlast the Blue Hawks on Monday afternoon. Marissa Nelson came in relief in the third inning down 4-3 and faced 14 batter, striking out 10 while allowing one hit for the win. Cam Bellen, Allie Wyand and Katie Cooldige all collected two hits apiece. Balyleigh Robichaud, Ashley Senecal and Kendra Hendrzak each added a hit.

Merrimack hosts Dover on Tuesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

MERRIMACK 8, NASHUA SOUTH 4

The Panthers (4-4) winning streak ends at three with a loss to the Tomahawks (6-2). Merrimack was led by Cayden Dine (goal, assist), Gabe Gorman (goal, assist), Sean Anderson (two goals, assist), Austin Kovaliv (two goals), Shea Scott (goal), Cash Torres (assist, eight face-off wins), Gavin Hickey (assist) and Mason Tremblay (13 saves).

Playing well for South were Owen Roy (two goals), Tyler Benzreki (goal, assist), Max Signoroni (goal) and Bryce Stewart (seven saves). Merrimack hosts Exeter on Tuesday and South battles Nashua North on Wednesday.

WINDHAM 13, NASHUA NORTH 3

Nick Wilkinson, Nico Bottari and Gavin Dungan each scored in the Titans (1-7) loss. Josh Parsons made 14 saves. North takes on Nashua South on Wednesday.

KENNETT 12, MILFORD 7

The Spartans (1-5) held strong but couldn’t outlast a stout Kennett squad. Josh Clark (three goals), Jace Wilhelmi (two goals), Jamie Noble (goal), Nathan Lesniak (goal) and Rocco Bartling (19 saves) all played well in the loss. Milford hosts Trinity on Wednesday.

KINGSWOOD 6, SOUHEGAN 2

The Sabers were held to single goals by Colin Yeaton and Jud Harris. Sean Reardon had eight saves.

Souhegan is off until it heads to Hanover next Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

PORTSMOUTH 18, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers (6-2) winning streak ends at three after hosting an undefeated Clippers squad. Carly Benzreki scored the lone goal off an assist from Molly Mullaney. Emma Herlihy made eight saves in net.

South faces Nashua North on Wednesday for Battle of the Bridge.

SOUHEGAN 20, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 0

The Sabers (6-1) win their fourth straight off of a shutout performance. Contributing to the offensive output were Izzy Stevenson (three goals, assist), Libby Kennedy (two goals, two assists), Emmie Curran (two goals, assist), Meredith Heimarck (two goals, assist), Averie Curran (goal, assist), Eva Stiles (goal), Lanai Hickman (goal, three assists), Sophie Jacobs (goal), Abbey Gray (goal), Maddy Behn (goal), Haley Christanson (goal, assist), Madeline Howe (goal), Emilia Koch (goal) and Gwen Allen (goal). Souhegan visits Dover on Wednesday.
