HS Roundup: Cards softball tops South; Saber baseball loses first

The chill was in the air but that didn’t stop the high school spring sports season one bit — or the Bishop Guertin High School softball team. The Cards, who almost beat Windham last week, started this one with their first win of the sesson over local rival Nashua South.

That plus baseball, lacrosse, tennis and the warmest sport, boys volleyball, await the readership:

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 11, NASHUA SOUTH 6

The Cardinals (1-2) grabbed their first win of the season at the hands of the Panthers (1-3). Kenzi Labbe earned the win giving up two hits and two runs over two innings and striking out four. Kailey Oleksak and Deanna Miles collected three hits apiece and Maris Bilodeau added two. Oleksak and Avery Zapanas each drove in three runs.

South’s Cate Marvin took the loss pitching six and two-thirds innings, surrendering 12 runs (10 earned) on 13 hits and striking seven. Cara Leblond and Brooke Berger tallied two hits each, Shirley Njau picked up a hit and two RBIs. BG hosts Bedford and South visits Alvirne on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 2, WINNACUNNET 1

Ashlyn Simmons (two hits, two RBIs) had the game winning RBI in the ninth to keep the Tomahawks (4-0) undefeated. Ashley Senecal recorded three hits, Bayleigh Robichaud and Cam Bellen added two apiece and Marissa Nelson and Olivia Burke each had one. Nelson pitched a complete game allowing six hits and striking out 11. Merrimack visits Londonderry on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

EXETER 8, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans (1-2) were shutout when they visited the Blue Hawks. Andrew Butler was solid in his varsity debut. Brayden Ouellet picked up the lone hit for the Titans. North hosts Dover on Wednesday.

KINGSWOOD 3, SOUHEGAN 1

The Sabers (2-1) suffer their first Division II loss since the 2024 title game. Alex Gaudet pitched five and one-third innings allowing six hits, three runs and striking out three.

Ethan Trudel pitched one and two-thirds innings giving up one hit and striking out one. Blake Powers had a hit in the loss. Souhegan visits Milford on Friday.

CAMPBELL 10, HOPKINTON 1

The Cougars (3-1) jumped ahead early with three runs in the first inning and didn’t look back. Michael Grace and Brady Marcotte recorded RBI singles in the first. Braydon White added to the lead by hitting a triple and later on stealing home in the second. Aidan Kepple and Nate Federico each drove in runs to add the offense. Marcotte grabbed the win with three scoreless innings and five strikeouts, while Federico added two and one-thirds innings in relief. Campbell collected nine hits and eight stolen bases. Campbell visits Belmont on Wednesday.

WINDHAM 6, ALVIRNE 1

The Broncos (0-4) early season struggles continue when they ran into the Jaguars. Brady Mitchell had a good outing on the mound and PJ Millette pitched well in relief allowing one run in three innings. Alvirne visits Nashua South on Tuesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

LONDONDERRY 16, NASHUA NORTH 10

Dylan Noble and Nico Bottari each scored four goals in the Titans (0-3) loss to the Lancers. Josh Parsons made 12 saves. North visits Salem on Wednesday.

BEDFORD 14, NASHUA SOUTH 7

The Panthers (1-3) lose their third straight games after visiting the Bulldogs. Owen Roy had a hat trick, Grant Imbeault scored two goals, Max Signoroni had one and Joe Kudla added an assist. Bryce Stuart made 14 saves. South hosts Hollis Brookline on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 15, MERRIMACK VALLEY 5

Mike O’Hearn and Sam Petrella collected five goals apiece in the Cavs (2-1) win. Bennett Torgersen scored three goals with Rome Raisanen and Bryce Cote each adding one. Levi Mitchell made six saves. HB visits Nashua South on Wednesday.

PELHAM 14, MILFORD 2

The Spartans fall to 1-3 after being wrangled by the Pythons. Milford visits Bishop Brady on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BEDFORD 10, NASHUA SOUTH 7

Carly Benzreki scored six goals and got her 100th draw control in the Panthers (3-1) loss. Emma Herlihy made five saves with Nitzann Alkalay, Nicole DeJesus, Karina Santana and Maddie Langer played well defensively. South visits Windham on Wednesday.

PORTSMOUTH 11, SOUHEGAN 5

The Sabers (1-1) fell to the visiting Clippers on Monday afternoon. Izzy Stevenson (five groundballs, assist), Libby Kennedy (two goals, assist), Averie Curran (goal), Lanai Hickman (two goals) and Molly Benson (five saves) played well in the loss. Souhegan hosts Hollis Brookline on Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

DOVER 9, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans fall to 2-3 with a loss to the Green Wave. Connor McInerney and Ben Husson played well in their matches for the locals. North hosts Pinkerton on Wednesday.

EXETER 8, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

Jaxon Deyak won 8-3 in the Cardinals (1-3) lone win on the day. BG visits Windham on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, OYSTER RIVER 0

The Cavs (6-0) shutout Oyster River on Monday afternoon. Arjun Inakollu (8-0), John Torpey (8-2), Samuel Anthony (8-4), Samuel Pistor (8-6), Greyson McSeveney (8-5) and Eli Mazzola (8-4) won in singles. Inakollu/Anthony (8-4), Torpey/Pistor (8-1) and McSeveny/Mazzola (8-1) won in doubles. HB visits Coe-Brown on Wednesday.

PLYMOUTH 6, SOUHEGAN 3

Brian Goddard picked up the lone singles win 8-2 for the Sabers (1-5). Goddard/Parker Schade (8-6) and Patrick Bryson/Keener (8-5) won in doubles. Souhegan hosts Goffstown on Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 8, EXETER 1

The Cardinals sit at an even 2-2 record after their dominant win over the Blue Hawks. Georgie Howell (8-3), Jackie Kriscunas (8-4), Lydia Miller (8-4), Dayana Cotito (8-1) and Faith Hebert (8-0) won in singles. Howell/Miller (8-6), Kriscunas/Cotito (8-0) and Hebert/Natania Fernandez (9-7) won in doubles. BG hosts Windham on Wednesday.

SOUHEGAN 8, PLYMOUTH 1

The Sabers (6-0) continue their winning streak on Monday. Winning in singles were Callie Perrin (8-0), Ori Dart (8-2), Sophia Yates (8-3), Mari Dart (8-1) and Elli Brower (8-4). Doubles winners were Callie Perrin/Ori Dart (8-2), Emma Perrin/Mari Dart (8-3) and Yates/Brower (8-2). Souhegan visits Goffstown on Tuesday.

OYSTER RIVER 5, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4

The Cavs (3-1) lose a close against Oyster River on Monday. Singles winners were Anna Heiplik (8-3), Carlie Holt (8-6) and Maddie Barich (8-6). Doubles winners were Heiplik/Max Walsh (8-2). HB visits Pembroke on Thursday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

GOFFSTOWN 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavs (1-2) lost to the Grizzlies 11-25, 18-25, 6-25. Playing well for HB were Jacob Toupin with five kills, Jameson Evelyn with three and Ben LeClerc with two. HB hosts Salem on Wednesday.
