HS Tennis Roundup: Saber girls roll, Merrimack boys win

While one Division II finalist from last year, the Hollis Brookline boys, dominated their opener Monday, the Souhegan girls, not only finalists but nowdefending champions, did the same.

GIRLS TENNIS

SOUHEGAN 9, WINNACUNNET 0

The Sabers competed well in their opener in Hampton, and there were a couple of close matches at the bottom of the singles ladder.

Up top there were decisive wins by Callie Perrin (8-0), Ori Dart (8-3), Emma Perrin (8-2) and Mari Dart (8-0), and good close wins by Kayden Merriam (9-7) and Lili Helfand (8-6).

Callie Perrin/Ori Dart won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles,while Emma Perrin/Mari Dart breezed at No.2 (8-0), and Souhegan won at No. 3, 8-5.

The Sabers are at another seacoast rival on Wednesday, Portsmouth.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6, ALVIRNE 3

The Cavs took four of six singles to set the tone for their win indoors at Longfellow Tennis Club in Nashua.

Anna Heiplik (8-2), Sapp Sidhu (8-4), Max Walsh (9-7) and Maddie Branch (9-7) won in singles while the No. 1 doubles team of Heiplik/Walsh (8-1) and Carlie Holt/Bianca Campanella (8-3) also won.

The Broncos got wins at No. 4 and 6 singles, and No. 2 doubles. But also, Broncos Nora Lemire at No. 5 and Samantha Shiller at No. 3 played well in defeat.

Alvirne hosts Milford on Wednesday while the Cavs are at ConVal.

BOYS TENNIS

MERRIMACK 6, MILFORD 3

The Tomahawks took four of six singles to set the tone en route to a season-opening win.

Leon Rossman at No. 2 (8-3), No. 3 Nithin Sathappan (8-5), No. 4 Jeremy Nigen (8-0) and No. 5 Drew Bergen (8-6) got the singles wins while Rossman/Nigen (8-5) and Bergen/Felix Rattunde (8-6) won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

For the Spartans, it was a competitive opener as No. 1 Will Emerson (8-3) and No. 6 Dylan Barber (9-8, 7-2) got wins and Huseyin Alperin played Bergen tough at No. 5. In doubles, Will and Ben Emerson won at No. 1 8-3.

Milford hosts Alvirne Wednesday while Merrimack is at Alvirne on Friday.

WINNACUNNET 8, SOUHEGAN 1

The Sabers had a tough opener, getting only an 8-2 singles win by Patrick Bryson.

The Sabers are home vs. Portsmouth on Wednesday.
