Pinkerton Academy made it two Division I boys basketball titles in the last three years with a 53-40 win over No. 3 Trinity of Manchester at the University of New Hampshire’s Lundholm Gym Sunday in Durham.

The No. 4 Astros (19-3) were trailing No. 3 Trinity (18-4) 14-9 after the first quarter but took control by outscoring the Pioneers 23-6 in the second quarter.

Pinkerton was led by guard Joshua Phanor’s 25 points and 23 by Brady Sullivan. The Astros, who eliminated Bishop Guertin in the quarters thanks to 14 3-pointers, had eight treys yesterday.

Trinity, coached by Nashua North and Daniel Webster College alum Ray Farmer, was led by Jordan Torres’ 13 points. The Astros shot 45.5 percent from the floor, but Trinity was cold, hitting 17 of 51 overall or 33.3 percent.

It’s Pinkerton’s fifth boys hoop state crown.
