The area didn’t get any champions, but several local high school girls wrestlers competed well at the NHIAA Girls Meet of Champions at Pinkerton Academy on Friday night.

However, on the hardwood it was a tough night for the Milford Spartans as both the boys and girls hoop teams ended the regular season with a loss.

Here’s the rundown:

GIRLS WRESTLING

MEET OF CHAMPIONS

ALVIRNE’S BONCORE, NASHUA SOUTH’S NAVARRETE LEAD LOCALS

Nashua South’s Meury Navarrete took second at 114. She fell to Goffstown’s Adrie Reeves in a 15-0 technical fall in the finals, but she beat Salem’s Jenhedy Mende 14-5 in the semis and pinned Merrimack Valley’s Layla Hatch and Keene’s Dayna English.

Alvirne’s Jillian Boncore took second at 185, falling to Concord’s Madison Beauregard in a 9-0 major decision in the finals but she bested Merrimack Valley’s Aubrey Mayveagaci 5-3 in the semis.

Alvirne’s Amelia Collins took third at 132. Campbell’s Charlotte Baker was fourth at 100.

Meanwhile, Bishop Guertin’s Ayla Saeturn took third at 165 , falling to Windham’s Samantha Bennett in the semis. She recorded wins over Milford’s Mya Coombs (pin) and Maya D’Eon (20-3 technical fall).

Coombs finished fourth; she did get a win over Keene’s Rachel Felegara (2-0 decision).

Nashua South’s Amber Wong was fourth at 145. Souhegan’s Ava Burbee took third at 138 with wins over Plymouth’s Tegan Hershey (pin) and Lindsey Stewart (pin). Fellow Saber Emily Ziriak was also third at 120 with two pins of Goffstown’s Giselle Barrera.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PEMBROKE 62, MILFORD 26

Pembroke finished the regular season unbeaten with standout senior Kate Stevens scoring 19 points, including her 1,000th.

Milford wraps up the regular season at 7-11 and will likely be the 12th seed in the upcoming Division II tourney that is slated to start Wednesday. Shea Hansen led the Spartans with nine points, the only game she did not reach double digits.

Lexi Bausha had six while Maggie Pelletier added four points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

PEMBROKE 87, MILFORD 53

The Spartans finished the regular season 6-12 as they fell behind the visitors hosts 25-9 after the first quarter and never recovered. Ben Emerson led Milford with 15 points while Will Emerson added 11.

But fear not; the Spartans still likely will own the 14th and final seed in next week’s state tournament and will be on the road Tuesday night, opponent to be determined.
