This year was a role reversal.

Bishop Guertin, which won the state gymnastics title a year ago, finished second behind the team it beat last year, Pinkerton Academy, in this past weekend’s NHIAA Gymnastics Championships at A2 Gym & Cheer in Salem.

Bishop Guertin’s Mercedes Tomaino was the second All-Around as the Cards, took second with 141.125.

The Astros, fueled by All-Around champion Rebecca King totaled 149.025. Windham was third at 139.300. Londonderry was fourth.

Tomaino totaled 36.400, just behind King at 37.850. Fellow Cardinal Aubrey Leedberg was sixth at 35.875.

Hollis Brookline’s Kai Swart was seventh at 35.800 while Campbell’s Skyla Houle took 14th at 34.600.

HB’s Anvi Kshirsagar was 21st while Souhegan’s Sarah Shepherd was 28th and Nashua North’s Abigail Bozek was 31st (31.075).

Campbell’s Bailey Weidner was 36th, Alvirne’s Leanne Carroll was 37th, while BG had Caitlin Harrington 41st and Abbie Whigham 42nd.

Tomaino was tied for eighth in balance beam, was eight on bars (8.725), tied for 13th on floor, was third on vault at 9.450.

Leedberg’s highlight was winning floor at 9.500. Another teammate, Jayla Gathright was eighth. Leedberg was also right behind Tomaino on vault tied for fourth at 9.400.

HB’s Swart’s best event was bars as she finished fifth at 8.900. That was an event that buoyed the Astros to the title as they took the top four spots.

Bars was also Houle’s best event as she took seventh at 8.850.

Swart was tied for eighth on vault while Houle was tied for ninth.
