HS Roundup: Neveu shines on Division I slopes; South girls hoop wins

A day after competing in the NHIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships as part of a state title relay team, Nashua High School North’s Rosie Neveu was at it again on Mondy.

Neveu was the top local finisher in both the Slalom and Giant Slalom in the Divison I Alpine Ski Championships at Gunstock.

Neveu had combined runs time of 1:16.25 in finishing seventh overall in the GS and came in fifth in the Slalom in 1:17.04 to qualify for the Meet of Champions.

Bishop Guertin’s Ariana Hughes was next among locals in the Slalom, coming in 12th (1:22.68). Hughes was 15th in the GS in 1:18.99, also qualifying for the MOC.

Overall, Bedford captured the title, edging Winnacunnet 739-736. Keene was third at 695.

Locally, Bishop Guertin was 12th at 594. North (14) had 524, while Merrimack and South finished 20-21 respectively.

Guertin was sixth in the Slalom as after Hughes came Madison Cail in 22nd (1:25.92), with Alyssa Pomerleu (29) and Reagan Trudel (51) finishing the scoring.

North was ninth in the Slalom with, besides Neveu, Kathryn Kieley (53rd) and Sam Nardone and Sarah Frye (tied for 57th) contributing. South’s Vera Scapati was 39th and Merrimack’s Sydney Capen 63rd.

In the GS, the Cards were seventh.Pomerleau was 29th in 1:22.01, Cail 35th, and Trudel 44th. North was ninth as well, with, after Rosie Neveu, Trina Neveu was 17th in 1:19.18. Candace Preston was 70th.

Ava Woods was 47th for Merrimack and Scarpati 60th for South.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 76, MERRIMACK 49

Lexi McGuire and Nicole De Jesus each had 15 points while Anya Challinger had 14 and Brooke Berger 12 as the Panthers snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 11-3.

Merrimack fell to 3-10 and will be at Exeter tonight. South is at Memorial on Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

PORTSMOUT 75, NASHUA NORTH 37

The Clippers are 13-0, so a tough matchup for the Titans who fell to 5-9. North was led by Evan Linscott’s nine points, and six from Josh Sullivan. The Titans host Salem on Friday.

BOYS HOCKEY

ALVIRNE-MILFORD 12, WINNACUNNET 0

The Admirals skated in a big way, with two goals each by Luke Green, Brandon Callahan and Brandon Ganas, plus single tallies by Dylan Macleod, Ryan Sutton, Mason Tomkins, and Chris Bozza.

Ganas and Green each had three assists for five point nights, Tomkins had two, while single assists went to Evan Paigas, Sutton, Wyatt Pepin, Macleod and Nate Ricci.

Kian Corcoran started and Admiral netminding had 15 saves for the shutout. Alvirne-Milford hosts Lebanon-Stevens-Mascoma Saturday at Skate 3.
