HS Hoop: Big wins for city girls hoop teams; Milford boys hit 14 3’s

It was a tough night for Nashua North and South boys basketball, a good night for Nashua North and South girls basketball, as well as Alvirne basketball, both genders. And let’s not forget that the BG girls hoop team has now won five straight.

And the stat of the night is what the Milford boys basketball team did from beyond the arc. Here’s hour high school hoop rundown:

BOYS BASKETBALL

PORTSMOUTH 86, NASHUA SOUTH 64

Despite Daniel Karavanic’s 29 point performance the Panthers (4-5) fell on the road to the Clippers. Shane Lemire (nine points), Francisco Rodriguez (eight points) and Rigo Challinger (eight points) played well in the loss. South hosts Merrimack on Tuesday.

TRINITY 60, NASHUA NORTH 34

The Titans fall to 3-7 after their loss on Friday night. Andre Kargbo (10 points), Sean Battle (seven points) and Josh Sullivan (five points) played well for the locals. North hosts Portsmouth on Tuesday.

ALVIRNE 89, CONCORD 47

Garrett Hall racked up 21 points in the Broncos (7-2) fourth straight win. Angel Kangar scored 18 points, Sean Chipfunde added 14 and Luke Norse had 13. Alvirne hosts Pinkerton on Wednesday.

MILFORD 67, OYSTER RIVER 62

Tyler Constable had the hot hand knocking down 20 points in the Spartans (4-4) win. Will Emerson and Ethan Szopa scored 14 and 12 points respectively. Milford totaled 14 three-pointers as a team. Milford visits Sanborn on Tuesday.

MANCHESTER WEST 58, SOUHEGAN 56

The Sabers (5-4) lose a heartbreaker as West scored the game winning shot with four seconds left to remain undefeated. Wes Hickman had a game high 24 points, Joe Mayo collected 15 and Sean Zerega scored 10. Souhegan hosts Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

NASHUA NORTH 58, TRINITY 54

The Titans (6-2) continue to roll with their sixth consecutive win. Contributing for the locals were Madelyn Tino (17 points), Alaina Small (15 points) and Angie King (12 points). North visits Portsmouth on Tuesday.

NASHUA SOUTH 32, PORTSMOUTH 27

The Panthers (8-1) claw out a win over the Clippers on Friday night. Nicole DeJesus scored 12 points, Maggie Gallagher tallied nine and Lexi McGuire had six. South visits Merrimack on Tuesday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 76, EXETER 57

The Cardinals (5-4) win their fifth straight game after a dominant win against the Blue Hawks. Hailey McGowan led the way with 20 points while Olivia Baker and Thalia Drapeau recorded 18 points apiece.

BG hosts Mercy today.

SOUHEGAN 38, DERRYFIELD 33

The Sabers (6-3) fell behind 16-6 in the second quarter before an 8-0 run right before halftime saw Derryfield with a 19-15 halftime lead. The Sabers went on another run to take a 27-24 lead at the end of the third quarter. Brynn Siska scored 11 points and Nayaa Dineshkumar collected nine points and 15 rebounds. Souhegan visits Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

OYSTER RIVER 46, MILFORD 37

After trailing 19-8 at the end of one, the Spartans (2-5) made a spirited comeback to lead 32-31 early in the fourth quarter, but the comeback ultimately fell a bit short on the road in Durham.

Shea Hansen paced Milford with 15 points, knocking down four three-pointers Jordyn Shaw added 13 in her first-ever varsity start. Maya Remella had five points, Trinity Millner added four and Maggie Pelletier had a strong defensive effort. Milford hosts Sanborn on Tuesday.

KEARSARGE 30, CAMPBELL 25

The Cougars (3-8) come up short on the road Friday night. Kenzie Ripley tallied 10 points, Zoe Bourque scored eight and Mikayla Swanson had six. Campbell hosts Newport on Monday.
