HS Roundup: Storm win again; Knights lose heartbreaker

Nashua’s newest hockey teams had some good news and bad news on Monday night.

The good news: the Souhegan-North-South Storm (girls) picked up their second straight win. The bad news: the North-South Knights (boys) fell on a goal as late as could be to drop to 0-3.

Here’s a look at that and a couple of other Monday results:

GIRLS HOCKEY

SOUHEGAN-NASHUA 5, BEDFORD 4

The Storm blew out to a 4-1 lead after one period, led 5-2 after two and held on to improve to 2-2, led by two goals by Anna Foley.

Amelia Warecki, Sophia Wine and Lily Helfand also scored, with Helfand’s goal being the eventual game-winner.

“The girls played amazing,” Storm coach Shannon Paquette said. “It was a great competitive game. The girls gave 100 percent of their effort into this win and we’re extremely proud of them.”

The Storm is back in action on Jan. 3 at Berlin-Gorham-Kennett.

GOFFSTOWN 4, KNIGHTS 3

The Grizzlies’ Owen St. Onge scored the game winner with four seconds left, the Knights’ third one-goal loss to start the season.

Brendon Doughty had two goals and an assist as Nashua led 1-0 after two periods . Doughty’s second goal had also just tied the game 36 seconds before the Grizzlies’ game-winner. Ouch.

Callen Cullity also had a goal and an assist for Nashua, while Conor Prunier had three assists. Brendan Skelley added an asssit while goalie Brendon Reudt vonCollenberg had 23 saves.

Nashua is back in action next Monday for the Conway Arena “Backyard Brawl” holiday tourney.

MHBDS 4, MANCHESTER 1

The Merrimack-Hollis Brookline-Derryfield tri-op got its first win of the season as Will Farrell had a goal and three assists at West Side Arean. Colin Hamlin and Alex May each had a goal and an assist, while Bryson Smith also scored for the locals. Josh Kahn had an assist whie goaltender Liam Gagne had 38 saves.

The WarHawks, now 1-1-1, will also play in the Backyard Brawl next Monday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BELMONT 46, CAMPBELL 37

The Cougars came ups short despite Makayla Swanson and Katie Fluet hitting for 12 points each. Kate Silver had six points.

Campbell next takes on St. Thomas after the holidays.
