HS Roundup: Record relay run for North; Saber wrestlers do well

Here are a few results that have trickled in from the weekend and within a few days:

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

NORTH SETS SCHOOL MARK

The Titans were among a few locals who competed in the Beantown Winter Classic at the Track at New Balance in Boston Saturday and Sunday, and their boys 4×400. The North foursome of Yaxiel Vazquez, Mason Dandeneau, Samuel Nardone and Gavin Suchecki came in fourth – North’s highest finish in any event – in 3:32.25..

North’s Buhour Chea was sixth in the 1000 in 2:40.08. That was North’s five points in a 30th place finish but the competition was the best of the best.

Milford was tied for 26th with Pinkerton and two other schools.All six of their points were scored in the 1000 by Spartans standout Grant Skorupan with a third place finish in the 1000 (2:39.66).

Alvirne was right behind North, in 31st with four points. Shane Plumley was fifth in the 600 in 1:25.77. The Broncos’ foursome of Michael Landmesser, Joey Marcotte, Jaden Tayler and Plumley finished sixth in 1:33.53, as did Evan Harmen, Jeremiah Carballo-Sophos, Ameer Salman and Jaden Taylor in the 4×400 relay in 3:36.74.

In the girls meet, Hollis Brookline was the only local, scoring a point while tied for 39. That one point was a sixth-place finish in the pole vault by Julianne Bergquist.

WRESTLING

SOUHEGAN SECOND AT LONDONDERRY TOURNEY

The Sabers had six place winners in the co-ed tournament, and two place winners in the girls tournament.

They had three firsts: Jack Kaler, Chase Knuckles, and Gabe Holt. Patrick Casey was second while Landon Carson, and Alex Sarfde.

Ava Burbee took a first while Emily Zirak had a second.

BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING

CAMPELL DIVERS DO WELL

At the recent Hanover Dive Invitational at Dartmouth College, juniior Nicolette Carlton won the 11-dive event, while her sister, freshman Vivian Carlton, came in third. Both qualified for the state diving championship in February.

Meawhile, freshman Bella Huber came in fourth, just missing the state qualifying cut. Ella Hayon came in third in the girls 6-dive event, while sophomore Drake Jensen won the boys 6-dive event.
