NASHUA – This time the loud cheers from the locker room came as the result of a victory.

Yes, the Souhegan-Nashua North-South Storm made the kind of history they like on Saturday at Conway Arena. They got the new program’s first-ever victory, blanking the Manchester Kings 6-0.

“I was on (the lone Souhegan) last year and we didn’t get any wins, so today just feels actually insane,” the Storm’s Haley Christianson said. “It’s kind of a weight lifted off my chest like we finally won a game, so we can go into the next game ‘Oh we can win’, we have the mindset of winning. It feels so good.”

“It feels amazing, absolutely insane,” SNS coach Shannon Paquette said. “I’m really proud of how they played how hard they worked. There’s still stuff to grow on, but it feels amazing…

“You could feel their energy coming out., and how excited they were getting.”

Briley Lansteiner led the way for the Storm with two unassisted goals and an assist. She opened the scoring 2:05 into the game, and when the first period ended the Storm had a commanding 4-0 lead.

“She helps really get our movement going, she was backchecking hard, and we really kept our coverage on Manchester,” Paquette said.

“We started really strong, going hard off the draw and we continued to stay hard on the puck,” Landsteiner said. “I’m really proud of how stayed it through the whole game.”

Sophia Wine added a goal and an assist, while Amelia Warecki and Olivia Lemoine (Landsteiner assist) also scored in the first period.

The second period was scoreless as Manchester goalie Sofie Loya (32 saves) was on top of her game but Landsteiner and Anna Foley added third period goals.

“I’m so happy, first of all because so many of those goals were scored by different people, so many got chances to shine,” Foley said. “I think that’s so awesome that everyone got a chance to show their skills out there. There’s not a lot of opportunities like that, but more to come, definitely.”

Manchester’s Taylor Morin tried to get a couple of breakaways but each time she was spilled in clean plays. Storm goalie Charlotte Dezotell needed to only make five saves while the Storm tried to keep the pressure on.

“The zone entry was a lot better, and we actually did our forecheck really well,” Paquette said. “Of course getting the puck on net. Rebounds, getting the puck on net. Communication.”

The Storm made history a week ago, despite losing 8-3 to Pinkerton in their opener. They were beaten 7-0 by Keene-Monadnock-Fall Mountain in their home opener at Conway Arena in their second game, but the third time was the charm and the players could feel it during the first period.

“Everyone was just so excited,” Foley said. “We’re a ‘starting out’ team, so any chance we get like this is different, you know? It’s awesome.”

“More to come,” Landsteiner said.
