HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Panther girls stun Astros in OT

There’s no question what the game of the night was Tuesday in local high school basketball.
Introducing the Nashua South girls basketball team, which upset Pinkerton Academy in overtime, one of the best wins for the program in recent years. How long had it been since the Panthers had beaten the Astros? Read on, as well as check out some other success stories for the night, including the Alvirne, Hollis Brookline and Souhegan boys teams:
GIRLS BASKETBALL
NASHUA SOUTH 58, PINKERTON 53 (OT)
Nicole DeJesus had a game high 19 points in the Panthers win over the Astros in extra time. Lexi McGuire scores 10 points and was followed by Maggie Gallagher and Hailey Cote who each had nine points. According to NH-Highschoolsports.com, South’s last win over Pinkerton was on January 25, 2008, in a 34-33 win, so this triumph snapped an 18-game losing streak against the Astros.
South trailed 25-24 at the half but led 43-37 going into the final quarter and the game went into OT tied at 50.
South visits Timberlane on Thursday.
BOW 47, SOUHEGAN 34
The Sabers fall to the Falcons after being outscored 13-2 in the third quarter. Zofia Rosenfield scored 16 points and Brynn Siska collected nine points and eight rebounds. Souhegan hosts Lebanon on Friday.
PELHAM 45, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 43
The Cavaliers played well despite the loss as Ana O’Donnell had 14 points to lead the way while Kendall Dunn had 11. Mya Blackman, Brooke Bouchard, and Ysa Ramas had great defensive games.
BOYS BASKETBALL
ALVIRNE 60, GOFFSTOWN 57
The Broncos grabbed a hard-fought win over the Grizzlies after being down a handful of players to the flu. Garrett Hall racked up 16 points with Angle Kangar and Sean Chipfunde each tallying 13 points.
Alvirne hosts Keene on Friday.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 69, PELHAM 60
Alton Williams collected 21 points and 15 rebounds in the Cavs win over the Pythons. HB’s defense showed their intensity early on in the game only allowing 19 first half points. Dylan Kelley scored 13 points; James Arthur added 12 and Marco Bergskaug had nine. HB hosts Pembroke on Friday.
SOUHEGAN 53, BOW 50 (OT)
Sean Zerega hit for 22 points including a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime, as the Sabers improved to 2-0. Wes Hickman added 19. The Saber will head to Lebanon on Friday.
WRESTLING
CAMPBELL SPLITS
The Cougars fell to John Stark 48-36, but edged Kearsarge 36-35. Winners included Sage Anctil (two), Tim Turecki, Jackson Lucas, and Jaydon Uccello.
Also, the Cougars had a retirement recognition for former coach Jim Marron for his years of dedication to the Campbell wrestling program.
