HS Roundup: South swimmers, HB wrestlers, North track shine

The first busy Saturday of the high school winter season arrived, and of course there were some great team and individual performances in swimming, track and wrestling. Yes, it was Meet Day.

Here’s a rundown of what we received:

BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING

SOUTH CAPTURES OVERALL MEET

The Panther boys and girls scored a combined 137 points with 12 first place finishes, while Bishop Guertin had 96 points (six firsts). Winnacunnet (26) was third while Alvirne with one first was fourth (6).

In the boys meet,South’s 200 medley relay team of Cole DeHoyos, Pratham Mukewar, Chris Jansen and Ayaan Parmar won in 2:04.21. DeHoyos won the 200 free (2:19.91), Nathan Perry the diving (127.35).

The Panthers 200 free relay team of Jansen, Parmar, Perry and DeHoyos won in 1:50.15.

DeHoyos won the 100 back (1:09.72), Mukewar the 100 breast (1:17.78).

For BG, Kyle Dos Santos won the 200 IM in 2:20.79 and the 100 free (58.28) and Dominic Calvanese the 50 free (25.68).

In the girls meet, South’s foursome of Mara Grigas-Lewis, Anjali Penumatsa, Keegan Dolan and Teresa Mathew took first in the 200 Medley Relay in 2:17.53. Dolan (lone competitor) won the 200 IM (2:38.72) as well as the 100 free (1:04.16). and Grigas-Lewis the 100 fly (1:16.94).

Penumatsa won the 100 breast (1:34.07), and the foursome of Dolan, Maliya, Grigas-Lewis and Teresa Mathew won the 400 free in 4:36.59.

For Bishop Guertin, Vivian Carlton took the 200 free (2:11.21) and the100 back (1:09.00); the 200 free relay team of Milani Almonte, Emma Smith, Ava Hamernik and Danica Marcotta-Mello won in 2:15.78.

That Alvirne first was by Auri Anderson in diving at 164.95.

BOYS&GIRLS TRACK

NORTH BOYS WIN MEET, NORTH GIRLS SECOND

The Titan boys dominated a nine-team meet at UNH, totaling 136 points, far ahead of second place Alvirne (51) while Bishop Guertin was ninth with eight points.

North’s Ryan Mamos was first in the 600 (1:30.64) while teammate Brunhour Chea was second. Cole Burns took the 1000 (2:46.20), while Owen Gagnon was second in the 1500.

North’s Kobe Perry, Yaxiel Vazeuqez, Mason Dandeneau and Gavin Suchecki teamed up for a win in the 4×1600 relay.

Suchecki took the high jump (6-0), while Jack Nelson was second and Jayden Beaulieu third. Suchecki was third in the 55 in 6.94, Mason Dandeneau was second in the 55 hurdles, and Jose Marcano took second in the shot, ahead of the Broncos’ Charles Barrett in third.

Alvirne got a win from Sam Oquist in the 55 dash in 6.83 seconds. Shane Plumley took second in the 300. Bishop Guertin’s Cam Sydow took fourth in the long jump.

In the girls meet, North was second at 66 behind Exeter’s 130.5. Alvirne (32) took fourth, while BG (20) was sixth.

For North, Allison Frye won the 300 in 44.47, was second in the 55 with Allie Dandeneau third. Dandeneau won the long jump at 16-01.

Rosalie Neveu was second in the 600. The foursome of Neveu Frye, Charlotte Wilson and Olivie Prowker was second in the 4×400. Also, Abigail Azevedo won the high jump at 5-02.

Alvirne’s Olivia Cartagena (5:20.30) and Makenna Simpson were one-two in the 1500. Charlianna Downey was third in the 1000.

The Cards’ foursome of Jocelyn Santosuosso, Maddy McCarthy, Bridget Powers and Anna Sinclair was second in the 4×160 relay. Sinclair was fourth in the 600.

WRESTLING

LOCALS SHINE AT TOM SAWYER INVITATIONAL

Hollis Brookline captured the annual Tom Sawyer Invitational at Souhegan High School.

Hollis Brookline’s Victor Lomme was the champion at 120 as was Jacob Critchfield at 165. Michael Marsolini was third at 113, Scout Crea fourth at 132, Jacob Velez reached the semis at 190, Phillip Berke took second at 285.

Milford (138.5) tied for second with host Souhegan.

Joey Fay led the way for the Spartans with three first period pins to capture the title at 113. Frankie Juvera was third at 132, while fourths went to Max Hammerstrom (126), Cam Stickney(138), Calix LaJoie (144) and Eli Wales 190.

Souhegan’s Jack Kaler was the winner at 132 while Chase Knuckles won at 144. Landon Carson took third at 138. Kyle Sukcharoenphon reached the semis at 106.

Nashua North (82.5) was 11, while Merrimack (36.5) finished 13th.

Nashua North’s Sebastian Ochoa was second at 126, as was fellow Titan Julian Arias-Pallandiat 138. Kayden Vallerand-Kenneally was second at 150, Yuri Soares reached the semis at 157.

The Tomahawks’ Luke Emond reached the quarters at 157.

In the girls division, Milford’s Mya Coombs captured top honors at 165 with all pins, while Souhegan’s Ava Burbee won at 138.
