HS Wrestling: Sabers, Cavs top ‘Hawks, Broncos in openers

The Souhegan High School wrestling team got off to a good start to the season on Wednesday night with a dominant 54-23 win over local rival Merrimack.
The Sabers recorded eight pins: Nathan Stout (126), Owen Kostecki (132), Jack Kaler (138), Landon Carson (144), Chase Knuckles (150), Alex Sarfde (157), Patrick Casey (175) and Gabe Holt (285).
Merrimack, meanwhile, had some moments. Cash Torres got a technical fall 17-1 win over Saber Marcus Stout at 165; Carter Anderson got a pin at 215, as did Charles Bolles at 120. The ‘Hawks also got a forfeit at 190.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 54, ALVIRNE 22
The Cavaliers are off to a great start, as they put together six straight wins at one point after the Broncos opened at 106 with a pin by Mason Verrocchio. HB winners included Michael Marsolini (pin) at 113, Victor Lomme at 120 (pin), Guy Lafreniere at 126 (pin), Scout Crea at 138 (18-8 major decision), Hunter Knight at 144 (9-6 decision), Will Crawford at 157 (technical fall 16-1), Jacob Chritchfield at 165 (pin), and pins by Jacob Vele (215) and Phillip Berke (285).
Alvirne also got a pin by Ayden Douglass at 150, a major 15-4 decision by Joseph Lydon at 175 and a Quintin Tetreault pin at 190.
