TOURNEY ROUNDUP: Titans roll on to semis; Milford, Souhegan win

The Nashua High School North girls volleyball team’s roll continues.
The Titans have won 13 of their last 14 matches, including Thursday night’s 3-0 road sweep of the Salem Blue Devils in the the Division I quarterfinals.
Now they are bound for the semifinals on Tuesday vs. the only team to have beaten them during this epic stretch on their home court. Yes, they’ll face the No.1 seed Pinkerton Academy Astros on their home floor in Derry on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
“Every gear did its part and the machine worked really well,” Titans coach Cassandra Desfosses said.
Two other local volleyball teams won last night in Division II, as both the Milford Spartans and Souhegan Sabers advanced to the quarterfinals set for Saturday.
Here’s your Thursday rundown and a look at Friday’s local tourney fun:
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
DIVISON I QUARTERFINALS
NO. 5 NASHUA NORTH 3, NO. 4 SALEM 0
The Titans were in control throughout, getting a 25-21, 25-10, 27-25 sweep to reach the semis.
The match ended with Logan Sartor on the line serving, and after the Salem return Ruby Zeman set it to Hayley Maurhoff for the finish.
DIVISION II PRELIMS
NO. 4 MILFORD 3, NO. 13 CAMPBELL 1
The Spartans (15-2) recovered from losing the first set 26-24 to taking the next three, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-8.
Savannah Watson had a great night with 20 kills, eight digs and six aces.
Other key contributors were Kassie Cupin (four kills, 36 assists, four digs and nine aces ), Harper Anderson (12 kills, 12 digs, one ace) and Piper Greenhalgh (one kill, six assists, 20 digs, five aces)
Milford will now host No. 5 Hanover (14-2) on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the quarters; Milford won 3-2 over the Bears at home back on Oct. 8. Hanover blanked No. 12 St. Thomas 3-0 last night.
As for the Cougars, they finish the season 8-10.
NO. 8 SOUHEGAN 3, NO. 9 GILFORD 0
The Sabers – like Souhegan’s football and field hockey teams – enjoyed a victorious night. Now the task on Saturday will be to visit No. 1 Oyster River in Durham in the quarterfinals. The Bobcats blanked No. 16 Pelham 3-0.
Souhegan lost to OR 3-1 on the road back on Sept. 24.
TODAY’S TOURNEY GAMES
Well, there’s no doubt what the main game of the day is in Nashua: It will be No. 6 Nashua North vs. No. 3 Bishop Guertin at 3 p.m. at Stellos Stadium in a rematch of last year’s Division I quarterfinal classic won by North. BG did beat the Titans 4-1 a couple of weeks ago in the regular season.
Also in girls soccer, No. 3 Campbell hosts No. 6 Gilford in Litchfield in the Division III quarterfinals, also at 3 p.m.
Two area Division II boys soccer teams will be playing in today’s quarterfinals. No. 2 Campbell will host No. 7 Coe-Brown Northwood, while No. 6 Hollis Brookline, after a prelim round win, will be at Pembroke Academy at 3 p.m. The Cougars, last year’s runnerup, had a first-round bye.
