It was an uphill battle for the Nashua High School North boys soccer team going into the final week of the regular season as far as making the Division I state tournament was concerned.
But they did it, winning two games and grabbing the xxth spot. They proved they belonged on Wednesday despite falling in the first round at Windham as they gave the Jaguars a battle. Merrimack also advanced, while in girls soccer Souhegan’s season ended.
Here’s the Wednesday rundown and what’s on tap for Tuesday:
BOYS SOCCER
NO. 4 WINDHAM 2, NO. 13 NASHUA NORTH 1
The Titans (4-10-3) grabbed a 1-0 first half lead on a Jake Griffin goal and took that into the half at Windham. But the Jags got two second-half goals to advance to the quarterfinals.
“It was a really good match, even throughout the 80 minutes,” North coach Thomas Prentice said. “We were very unlucky on some opportunities but no matter; I’m very proud of the group and the resilience they have shown throughout the year.”
Windham (12-2-3) will host Merrimack on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
NO. 5 MERRIMACK 4, NO. 12 SALEM 1
Trailing 1-0, Jackson Geer scored the equalizer for the Tomahawks and Spencer Robinson got the go-ahead score.
