Friday was a happy and sad day for local high school teams. Unless you’re the Merrimack High School field hockey team, which had a little bit of both. The ‘Hawks were thrilled to have made the Divison I field hockey quarters, but they lost to powerful Bedford.

“We were happy to be there,” Merrimack coach Courtney LeFrancois said. “All the girls worked really hard and gave their heart and souls to the game. I’m very proud of them.”

Other teams in soccer and volleyball captured their regular season finales and will be moving on to tourney play. And some won’t.

Here’s the Friday rundown:

FIELD HOCKEY

DIVISION I QUARTERFINALS

NO. 2 BEDFORD 6, NO. 10 MERRIMACK 0

The Tomahawks were shutout by the Bulldogs on Friday and their tournament run ends. Senior captains Jackie Hayes and Liv Mitchell played well as the ‘Hawks season ends at 8-9-1.

The Cards finished a highly successful 15-3 season with a 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 sweep at the Colligadome. Guertin enjoyed a dominant performance from Caitlin Harrington and Alissa Maillet.

Alvirne had a tough night as mainstays Hailee Lane and Mena Lewis went down with injuries during the match. Kya Maben led Alvirne with four kills and a block.

The Broncos finished 8-10, and both teams will be in action early next week in the Divsiion I tourney.

WINDHAM 3, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers fall to the Jaguars 16-25, 8-25, 16-25. Hanna Perez recorded four kills and three blocks and Briley Landsteiner collected 13 digs.

South ends the season at 3-15.

LONDONDERRY 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavs (5-13) got swept by the Lancers (16-2) and their regular season comes to an end. Hailey Klaassens had six kills for HB, while Nicole Kosakowski had five kills and a block. Hersey Vedula (six aces) and Dami Holman (five aces) also helped out.

The Cavs may not make the postseason due to tiebreakers, but nothing is official until the pairings come out on Monday.

The Spartans squeak by Lebanon and improve 9-4-3 on a penalty kick goal by Shea Hansen. Delaney Barber had seven saves in goal for the Spartans, who will likely get a first round bye and play in the quarters next Saturday. That’s unofficial; official pairings will be out on Monday.
