HS Roundup: Merrimack field hockey advances; North soccer wins

The regular season is winding down in soccer and the fun has just begun in field hockey — at least that’s what the Merrimack High School squad hopes after getting a first round upset win on the road.

In regular season soccer, Nashua North ended a victory drought of nine games, while the Alvirne girls won their second straight after ending their year-plus drought recently. Here’s the rundown:

FIELD HOCKEY

DIVISION I PRELIMS

NO. 10 MERRIMACK, NO. 7 TIMBERLANE 0

The Tomahawks got a goal by Allie Wyand with 5:15 left in the second quarter and made it stand up in Plaistow.

Now 8-8-1, the ‘Hawks will face No. 2 Bedford (14-1-1) in the quarterfinals on Friday at BHS’ Bulldog Stadium. Bedford handed Merrimack a 9-1 defeat in the regular season back on Sept. 8. Timberlane’s season ends at 9-7-1.

BOYS SOCCER

NASHUA NORTH 1, WINNACUNNET 0

Caleb Gelineau scored on a last minute free kick to grab a win for the Titans (3-9-3). North visits Timberlane on Thursday.

NASHUA SOUTH 2, LONDONDERRY 1

The Panthers improve to 14-0-1 by getting past the Lancers. Michele Esposito and Kevin Araujo each found the back of the net. Damien Rodrigues played well on the front line. South visits Manchester Memorial on Thursday.

CAMPBELL 2, CONVAL 1

Matthew Decarli and Christian Bellino scored late game goals to give the Cougars (12-2-1) the win. Ethan Bellino assisted on both goals. Campbell visits Pelham on Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4, LACONIA 1

John Constantine (two goals, assist), Andrew Desmairas (goal) and Oliver Bettencourt (goal) provided the attack for the Cavs (7-5-3) on Senior Night. Nathan Fossnes had an assist and Ian Sinclair made three saves. Constantine, Desmairas, Leo Zwiener and Chris Ledger were honored foe Senior Night.

HB visits ConVal on Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7, LACONIA 0

Livie Ward netted two goals in the Cavs (14-0-1) shutout win. Marleigh Kreick (goal, two assists), Kai Swart, Cassidy Engle, Rosalie DeSantis and Olivia Langfield also found the back of the net. Grace Dow, Ava Barry and Cecilia Dufoe provided assists. Maddy Leonard was in net for the shutout.

HB hosts ConVal on Thursday.

MILFORD 2, SOUHEGAN 1

The Spartans (8-4-3) outduel the Sabers (5-6-4) on Tuesday. Kinsley Matsis and Nadia Tlapa scored one goal apiece. Matsis and Camy Sayward each tallied assists. Delaney Barber made seven saves.

Milford hosts Lebanon on Friday and Souhegan visits Bow on Friday.

ALVIRNE 8, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 1

Lia Brown had hat trick in the Broncos (2-11-2) dominant win. Anna Murphy, Celia Fain and Sam DaSilva each had a goal. Leah Moreau scored two goals, Haylie Christman tallied three assists and Abbie Kowalski had seven saves. Alvirne visits Windham on Thursday.
