HS Roundup: HB football rolls; South, BG boys soccer win

The Hollis Brookline football team is making strides to the point where they may be starting to win the games they’re supposed to.
The routed winless Pembroke Academy on the road for the team’s second win of the season to highlight a busy local sports day that includes boys and girls soccer – there was a boys tripleheader at Stellos Stadium – plus the state individual golf tourney.
“It felt great,” HB football coach Pat Gendron said of the win. “The kids have been buying in and when they finally play with confidence, we can be pretty talented.”
Here’s the rundown:
FOOTBALL
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 43, PEMBROKE ACADEMY 2
The Cavs are now 2-5 thanks to three Cole Duncan touchdowns and two-point conversion. Quarterback Steve Nieble completed 10 of 15 passes for 186 yards, and a two-point conversion.
Dillon Kinney and Nate Fauteux each had touchdowns. Jamie Duncan had an extra point, and several others also contributed.
BOYS SOCCER
NASHUA SOUTH 5, PINKERTON 2
The Panthers (13-0-1) found themselves in a 2-2 deadlock with the Astros but South’s energy level picked up as they scored three unanswered for their 13th straight win at Stellos. Vitor Pegas had a pair of goals, while singles were by Nirav Chenji, Michele Esposito and Damien Rodrigues.
South hosts Londndery on Tuesday at Stellos.
BISHOP GUERTIN 7, TIMBERLANE 2
The Cards are now 11-1-2 as Trenton Cormier had a pair of goals and an assist while Ryan Neary and Jack Crane each had a goal and an assist.
Denis Lison, Luis Haas and Nick Chartier each had goals while Liam Ireland, Will Barba and Alex Haight added assists. Beau Boughter and James Algeo split time in goal.
BG hosts Keene at Stellos on Monday.
NASHUA NORTH 1, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 1
The Titans bounced back from a tough game vs. BG the other night, getting a goal by Caleb Gelineau.
Now 2-9-3, the Titans host Winnacunnet on Tuesday at Stellos.
MERRIMACK 5, DOVER 2
The Tomahawks came off a nine-day layoff and improved to 8-2-3 thanks in part to a Kaiden Martin hat trick.
Quinn Giuliano and Ryan Cirillo each had a goal while Spencer Robinson assisted on two of Martin’s goals.
Merrimack hosts Hanover on Monday at 4 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
EXETER 2, NASHUA NORTH 1
It was a tight battle of Division I contenders out on the seacoast, the Titans managing a goal by Maja Ray-Hokanson, assisted by Sarah Frye.
Now 11-3, North heads to the coast again on Tuesday to face Winnacunnet at 6 p.m. The Blue Hawks are now 13-1 with their 13th straight win.
CO-ED GOLF
LOCALS COMPETE AT INDIVIDUAL TOURNEY
Unlike past years, there were no title contenders this year at Beaver Meadow. In Division I, which was won by Bedford’s Aaryan Narang,(even par overall, two-under in Round 2),
Owen Murphy of Bishop Guertin was the top local, tied for ninth at 13 over. Fellow Cardinal Aaron Ackerman was 11th at 14 over.
In Division II, Souhegan’s Jacob Wilson was second – but 17 shots behind winner Grey Gagnon, who was a scintillating 10-under. Hollis Brookline’s Matt Howie (12 over) was tied for seventh with Souhegan’s Landon Carson. Saber Sean Zerega was ninth (plus-13) while fellow Saber Matt Nowak was tied for 12th at plus-18 and Joe Mayo was plus-19 in 14th.
In Division III boys, Campbell’s Gavin Retkevicz was plus-24 in seventh. Bishop Brady’s Chase Connor captured the crown at 11 over.
In the girls, Nashua North’s Morgan Barry was fifth at plus-15. Oyster River’s Teagan Nadeau won the title at nine-over.
