All bad things have to come to an end, right?

Well, they finally did for the Hollis Brookline High School football team on Friday night. The Cavaliers’ 27-game losing streak is over, courtesy of a 21-6 win over John Stark in Weare.

“They believed in themselves,” first-year HB coach Pat Gendron said. “During the Pelham game last week (a 50-0 loss) we had a ‘come to Jesus’ meeting at halftime and realized we needed to play tough football and not bow out when times get tough.”

Elsewhere, Nashua South got a resounding win over Keene and the same for Merrimack over Goffstown.

Here’s a look:

The Cavs are now 1-4, led by QB Stevie Nieble with 11 carries for 129 yards, two TDs and 9 of 15 for 89 yards passing.

HB’s other score was a 20-yard Cole Duncan pick-six. Duncan had eight receptions for 80 yards. He also went 1 for 2 for 60 yards passing.

Also helping out: Jacob Velez (10 carries for 59 yards) and Jamie Duncan and Dillon Kinney (one interception each) plus Gabe McGrath (two fumble recoveries).

“Tonight they came out hungry and confident,” Gendron said. “Very proud of how the kids came together.”

HB will try to make it two straight at home next Friday vs. ConVal.

The Panthers moved to 3-1 in Division I, 4-1 overall as Cody Jackons threw for a TD and ran for one as well, and running back Same Levine rushed for 115 yards and three TDs on 15 carries.

Ryan Jansen (5-47), Colvin Levesque (42-yard run), Jacob Trip (15 yards rushing, one TD), Bruno Goncalves (7-yard TD run), Joseph Kudla (3 yards) and Cooper Vaillancourt (two-point run) all contributed as well on the ground.

In the air, Jackson was 10 of 14 for 175 yards, with his favorite target Josh Tripp (five catches, 115 yards, one TD). Justin Fish had three receptions for 41 yards while Levesque (two catches, 12 yards) and Levine (catch for eight) were part of the air game also.

Defensively, Levesque had an interception while Zachary Goulart had a fumble recovery. Preston Bois was 5 of 6 on PATs.

South hosts Bishop Guertin next Friday.

MERRIMACK 42, GOFFSTOWN 14

Gabe Gorman had three rushing TDs while Shea Scott had two as the ‘Hawks rolled at Goffstown, improving to 2-2.

Maverick Torres also threw a 15-yard TD pass to Cayden Dine. Scott and Gorman gave the ‘Hawks a 14-0 lead and a Gorman 5-yard run helped make it 20-7. Torres’ TD throw made it 28-7 with 3:55 left in the third and that was just about it.

Merrimack is at Keene next Saturday.
