HS Roundup: Cards, Sabers do well at Manchester Invitational

It was a light Saturday locally in high school – but really not, not when tons of runners from New England competing at the 42nd annual Manchester Invitation at Derryfield Park.

Here’s a look:

BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

MANCHESTER INVITATIONAL

Bishop Guertin’s Ethan Fischer was the top local finisher in the 42nd annual Manchester Invitational, competing in the boys large school division.

Souhegan’s Samantha Swanbon finished eighth in 20:38.3 to be the top local in the girls small school division. The Saber boys were eighth overall at 248, while Coe-Brown (104) won the event with Oyster River second.

The Souhegan girls were 11th (296) and Hollis Brookline was 15th (419) and Campbell 24th (608).

Pinkerton Academy won the boys large school event with 83 points, while Bishop Guertin was the top local, finishing 12th with 330 points. Nashua South was close behind in 16th at 389 and Nashua North was 19th at 420.

Alvirne was 29th and Merrimack 31st in the 35-team division.

The BG girls were also 12th in the large school division as the top local. Merrimack was 24th and Nashua South 25th.

Michael Studer was 27th for BG in 17:18.1 and Sam Prescott 36th (17:37.0). The next BG runner was Braden Phemester, 82nd. South was led by Matthew Motherway, 34th in 17:31.6 while Panther Pranav Dasari was 77th (18:23.4) and Evan Jean was next (86, 18:27.0).

North was led by Owen Gagnon (61, 18:05.8) and Cole Burns (62, 18:06.3). Titan Tom White was 69th.

BOYS SMALL SCHOOL

After Souhegan, Hollis Brookline was 13th (449) while Milford (684) was 26th. Campbell(1124) was 40th.

For the Sabers, Jacob Spencer was 30th in 17:45.4, while Ryan Quinn was 46th (18:09.7), Drew Rigaut 49th (18:11.0) and Thomas Arnoldy 63rd (18:32.9).

Hollis Brookline’s leader was William Scott, 37th in 17:54.2. Jacob Hoesch was 85th (19:03.9) and Thomas Howie 87th (19:06.7). Milford’s Grant Skorupan was 28th (17:43.8) and Joshua Coates 84th (19:02.6).

GIRLS LARGE SCHOOL

Bishop Guertin’s Zoe Coler was the top local, coming in 20th in 20:21.6. Fellow Cardinal Jaylyn Paul was 32nd in 20:56.6 and Lyla Masson 58th (22:01.3).Anna Sinclair was 91st.

Ariana Marengo led South (97, 23:04.3). Zosia Yellin led Merrimack (101).

GIRLS SMALL SCHOOL

Brynn Siska was 21st for the Sabers in 21:08.2, the only other Saber in the top 100. Caroline Ridings was next at 109. Hollis Brookline was led by Edith Butler (30, 21:36.5), Quinn Hardy (73, 23.12.6) and Sara Bauer (81, 23:24.7).

Calleigh Duncan was 70th (23:07.5) for Campbell, and fellow Cougar Brianna Flanagan was 92nd.

GIRLS SOCCER

CONCORD 1, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers fell to 1-3-3 despite a fantastic game from Ella Bois, who was a presence all over the field.

Next up for the Panthers is North on Tuesday in the Battle of the Bridge.

MERRIMACK VALLEY3, MILFORD 2

The Spartans got two goals from Kinsley Matsis for a 2-0 lead but gave up three straight to fall to 3-2-1. The Spartans take on Bow on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 4, NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans fell to 2-4-1 with the loss at Stellos Stadium. Up next is rival Nashua South on Tuesday.

MERRIMACK VALLEY 3, MILFORD 1

Milford’s Ky-Mani Velez-Boggis scored the Spartans lone goal as they dropped their fifth straight (1-5).

Milford is at Bow on Tuesday.
