NASHUA – Some recognizable names in Nashua sports will be honored by Bishop Guertin when eight former Cardinal athletes/coaches and two teams are inducted into the BG Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Sky Meadow.

Two of the most recognizable names are former Cardinal athletic directors Bill Dod and Tony Johnson, who had incredible success as coaches. Dod, of course, is the state’s career leader in wins for high school baseball with his stints at Sanborn, Bishop Guertin, Milford and Souhegan, and he coached the Cards to titles in 1982 and 1987.

Johnson revitalized a struggling football program and turned it into a Division II dynasty, winning six state titles in the early 2000s, and also coached girls track. But he also played at BG and was on the Cards’ 1975 Division II title team that was just honored this past weekend. Both Dod and Johnson are in the Nashua Lions Club Legends of Holman Hall of Fame.

Others being inducted include James Dobens (1973 grad, baseball, basketball), Christopher Prince (’88, basketball, baseball, tennis), Amy Pietrusewicz (’94, soccer, basketball, softball), Geoffrey Nickerson (’96, track and field, cross country), Anne Coulter (’02 basketball volleyball, track and field) and Tracy Martin (’09, golf).

Also being inducted are the 1970 Cardinal football team that won the first of four BG titles in six years, that one coming in Division III. The other team being inducted is the 1992 Cardinals soccer team, which beat Fall Mountain 3-2 in overtime for the Class M-S crown at Concord’s Memorial Field. It was the first girls championship for the school which was in the early years of going co-ed; former Mount St. Mary coach Leo Koch was the Cards coach.

This is the sixth BG HOF class, the others were inducted in 1998, 2001, 2009, 2010 and 2017. The Athetics Hall, including this current class, will have 52 inductees and two teams.
