HS Roundup: BG soccer unbeaten; Cards volleyball edges North

Friday is usually a football day/night in the fall, but let’s not forget about the other sports and accomplishments, like Bishop Guertin boys soccer staying unbeaten and the Cardinals girls volleyball team and its Nashua North counterpart playing quite a match.

Here’s a look:

BOYS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 2, WINNACUNNET 0

The Cardinals (4-0) pick up another shutout win as they head home from Winnacunnet. Trenton Cormier and Liam Ireland found the back of the net. Ryan Neary had an assist, Beau Boughter recorded his third straight clean sheet and Andrew Klyop was dominant at the midfield. BG visits Spaulding on Monday.

MERRIMACK 5, LONDONDERRY 2

The Tomahawks (4-0-1) scored five unanswered goals to win their fourth straight match. Kaiden Martin had two goals and one assist to lead the way after a Nate Johnson header to tie it. An own goal by Londonderry gave the Tomahawks the lead. Ryan Cirillo scored the final tally of the game.Merrimack visits Nashua South on Tuesday.

SOUHEGAN 0, CONVAL 0

Finnegan Daly made three saves for the Sabers on Friday. Souhegan visits Merrimack Valley on Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

JOHN STARK 4, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

After recording three shutout wins in a row the Cavs (3-1) were the ones shutout this time around. HB hosts Hanvoer on Wednesday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Cardinals (4-1) comeback from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Titans (2-2) 18-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-13, 15-12. Caitlin Harrington and Deidre Whalen had career nights for BG.

BG visits Hollis Brookline on Monday and North hosts Exeter on Monday.

BEDFORD 3, MERRIMACK 0

The Tomahawks (1-4) fall to the Bulldogs 15-25, 19-25, 19-25. Leah Monroe (four kills, 11 digs), Bella Stiles (13 assists), Avary Cruz (three kills, six digs) and Mia Cruz (eight digs) played well for the locals. Merrimack visits Portsmouth on Monday.

GOFFSTOWN 3,HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Grizzlies took the first two sets 26-24, 25-10, before the Cavs roared back with 25-16,25-22 wins. Unfortunately for HB, Goffstown took the deciding fifth set 15-10.

Leading scorers for the Cavaliers were seniors Hershey Vedula and Shelby Hines who made 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Sophomore Harper Sarris racked up 44 assists and Dami Holman was solid on defense. The Cavaliers will host Bishop Guertin on Monday.
