HS Roundup: BG field hockey wins; Alvirne girls do well at Bobcat Invite
There wasn’t much on the high school schedule for a fall Saturday yesterday, which was good considering the bad weather.
FIELD HOCKEY
BISHOP GUERTIN 5, PORTSMOUTH 1
Maris Bilodeau scored two goals, while Addi Daddona and Kaylee Cruikshank contributed to the offense as well as the Cards improved to 2-1.
BEDFORD 11, NASHUA SOUTH 0
The Bulldogs proved earlier this past week that they’re on another level, and that was the case again yesterday at Stellos Stadium. South’s Meury Navarette was amazing in holding the fort as best she could in goal with 24 saves. Meenu Dwaraka had two defensive saves as well. South plays Portsmouth on Monday.
BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
ALVIRNE GIRLS FIFTH AT BOBCAT INVITATIONAL
The Alvirne girls totaled 163 to be the top local team at the Bobcat Invitational in Durham. Campbell was 10th at 231.
Oyster River dominated, winning with 44 followed by Hopkinton (71), Bedford (85) and Londonderry (134).
In the boys race, Milford was the top local, finishing ninth (274) while Alvirne was 13th (343) and Campbell 19th (532).
Pinkerton cruised to the title at 37, with Londonderry second at 75.
Alvirne in the girls event was led by Olivia Cartagena, who was eighth in 21:24.3. Markena Simpson was 13th in 22:03.4 while Charlianna Downey was 37th in 24:27.1.
Campbell was paced by Brianna Flanagan (26, 23:09.8) and right behind her, Calleigh Duncan (27, 23:10.9).
As for the boys, Milford was paced by Grant Skorupan in 15th (17:28.2) while Chaise Paiva was 36th (18:49.4) and Joshua Coates 44th (19:07.4).
Alvirne’s Sam Matson was 49th (19:12.6) while Aiden O’Leary was 66th. Campbell’s Landon Towsley was 96th.
GIRLS SOCCER
BISHOP GUERTIN 2024 TEAM HONORED
The Cardinals’ 2024 girls varsity soccer team was awarded a Team Academic Award for their classroom achievement in the 2024-25 school year by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
For a team to be considered, it musth have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.25 for all roster-eligible members.
Because the Cards earned an ethics and sportsmanship award last year and now with this award, BG is eligible fr the Team Pinnacle Award, the highest honor given by the United Soccer Coaches to a high school team.
