HS Roundup: Panthers enjoy home cooking; BG girls roll

The Nashua High School South boys soccer team was glad to be home for the first time this young season – and the Panthers played like it.
South picked up a win over Portsmouth – the poor Clippers second loss at Stellos Stadium in three nights. Meanwhile, the Bishop Guertin girls volleyball team followed up their historic win over Bedford with a road win over, yes, Portsmouth. And their Cardinal soccer counterparts stayed unbeaten.
Here’s the rundown:
BOYS SOCCER
NASHUA SOUTH 4, PORTSMOUTH 2
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and hung on for the win with three goals by Michele Esposito and a single tally by Kevin Araujo. Antonio Pancine was solid in goal for South, now 2-0-1.
MERRIMACK 6, CONCORD 0
Kaiden Martin had a goal and three assists to lead the Tomahawks, who got single tallies by Nate Johnson, RyanCirillo, Quinn Giuliano, Bryce Cardin and Jordan Sugianto.
Armin Omeragic, Connor Boutin and Ethan Dorman all shared keeper duties for the shuout. Merrimack hosts Nashua North on Tuesday.
WINDHAM 3, NASHUA NORTH 2
The Titans weren’t able to pick up where they left off after Tuesday’s win, falling to 1-2
Down 1-0, North got goals from Anthony Ciraso and Mason Dandeneau to gonup 2-1,but the Jags got two goals in the final 10 minutes for the win.
North is at Merrimack on Tuesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
BISHOP GUERTIN 8, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0
The Cards improved to 3-0 as Kelsey Ackerman and Emerson Brown had two goals each while single goals were by Sophia Hickey, Kareena Sondhi, Julia Balzano, and Zoe Horton-Sousa.
BG keepers Olivia Bakcer and Hailey McGowan combined for the shutout.
NASHUA SOUTH 0, PORTSMOUTH 0
A scoreless tie on the seacoast put the Panthers at 0-2-1 to start the season.
South will be at Alvirne on Tuesday.
SALEM 3, ALVIRNE 1
The Broncos are still seeking that first win, with Celia Fain scoring their lone goal, assisted by Reese Wanamaker.
Keeper Abbie Kowalski had 23 saves.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
BISHOP GUERTIN 3, PORTSMOUTH 0
The Cards moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 25-7, 25-18, 27-25 road sweep. They enjoyed a strong defensive performance from Libero Alissa Maillet, while setter Claudia Daniel had another great night. Also, senior Annie Hammond led the team in aces and much-needed service pressure.
MILFORD 3, PLYMOUTH 0
The Spartans opened their season in dominant fashion with a 25-10, 25-9, 25-15 sweep.
Kassandra Cupin had 24 assists and six aces, while Harper Anderson (nine kills, two blocks), Savannah Watson (four kills, nine aces) and Piper Greenehalgh (eight digs) also were keys to the win.
