Vermont jumps out to lead, holds on for 19-14 Shrine win
Vermont jumped out to a 19-0 lead and held on at the end for a 19-14 win in the annual New Hampshire-Vermont Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl at Castleton (Vt.) State.
It was Vermont’s third straight win in the series that it trails 50-19-2.
Vermont got a 69 yard TD run by Poppy Diawara in the first quarter, a Hayden Boivin 17-yard TD run late in the second quarter, and a 10-yard Diawara TD pass to Carter Bunnell with 29 seconds left in the half.
But that was it for the Vermont scoring. In the second half, New Hampshire got a Brady Lover (Bow) 2-yard run, set up by Pinkerton alum Jameson Isaac’s 47-yard interception return to get on the board with 7:36 left in the third quarter.
New Hampshire put more pressure on as Lover hit Isaac on a 69-yard TD with 9:54 to play to help close within 19-14.
New Hampshire drove to the Vermont 37 on its final possession but missed out on a fourth-and-9 pass that was caught out of bounds in the final minute.
