The tough thing about this time of year is that seasons can end abruptly, and that’s what happened to the Merrimack High School boys lacrosse team on Monday.

However, a Nashua North tennis player had her season extended into the final day to set up an all local singles semifinal.

Here’s a look at the lightest local tourney day in a while:

BOYS LACROSSE QUARTERFINALS

NO. 4 EXETER 10, NO. 5 MERRIMACK 7

The Tomahawks did just about everything right except win. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Blue Hawks, whose last game was nearly two weeks ago vs. Bishop Guertin. Merrimack then led 6-2 at the half and led 7-2 three minutes into the third quarter.

However, the Blue Hawks had a furious comeback with eight unanswered goals, and they will now take on No. 1 Pinkerton in Wednesday’s semifinals at 7 p.m. at Exeter’s Bill Ball Stadium.

Sean Anderson had three goals and an assist while Henry Tobin, Max Giles (with three assists), Peyton Connelly and Cayden Dine all had a goal each for Merrimack.

The ‘Hawks finished a fine season at 11-7. Mason Tremblay had 18 saves in goal while Nathaniel Bergen played well on defense in front of him.

GIRLS TENNIS

NORTH’S PAPPAS REACHES SEMIS

Nashua North’s Mary Pappas, the No. 3 seed, advanced to the semifinals of the state girls singles tournament with three wins.

First, she downed Avery Sahr from Bishop Brady 8-0, and then Lebanon’s Laura Hines, 8-1, and finally Paige Wilson of Dover, 8-3.

The semis will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. with the finals to follow, all at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester.

Set to face Pappas is Souhegan’s Callie Perrin, the No. 2 seed. Perrin beat Mia Rivard of Pinkerton 8-3 and Katie Costa of Merrimack 8-3 to reach the semis.
