HS Tourney Roundup: South girls lax bows; HB, Campbell nines win

It was a pretty good day on the diamond for local teams, but not so much on the lacrose turf:

GIRLS LACROSSE

NO. 4 EXETER 13, NO. 5 NASHUA SOUTH 11

Not surprisingly, not much separated these two teams, but it’s the Panthers who are done at 14-5 while Exeter will move on to fact top ranked Portsmouth in Saturday’s semifinals at Bill Ball Stadium, where this game was played.

Lilee Petricca had eight saves in goal for the Panthers while Karina O’Donnell and Carly Benzekri each had four goals. Addie Borden had two goals and Maren Lowell had a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who, despite the result, had a successful season.

BASEBALL

DIVISION II PRELIMS

NO. 4 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4, NO. 13 PELHAM 1

Dylan Morelli struck out 15 Pythons while giving up just one run on six hits in 6.2 innings, walking just three. Ben George got the final out in the seventh.

Paul Gehan hit a three-run homer in he second inning, as he went 2-for-2 on the day wth a walk.

The 14-4 Cavs will now face No. 5 Kingswood at home on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

DIVISION III PRELIMS

NO. 6 CAMPBELL 3, NO. 11 GILFORD 2

The Cougars got an RBI single by Jack Curtis to break a 2-2 tie in the sixth as the Cougars move on to Saturday’s quarters.

Curtis also got the start on the mound, while Braydon White fanned six in 3.2 hitless innings of relief.

Ivan Schafer delivered a big hit to tie the game and drove in two of Campbell’s three runs. Michael Grace was stead with two hits and anchored the infield with 10 clean outs.

The 12-5 Cougars will now travel to face No. 3 Bishop Brady in Saturday’s quarterfinals in Concord at 4 p.m.

DIVISION IV PRELIMS

NO. 1 EPPING 3, NO. 16 WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 2

The Warriros certainly gave the top seed a good battle before their season ended at 6-12. Epping (16-1) will host No. 9 Nute (11-5) on Saturday in the quarters.

TODAY’S GAMES

It’s a light schedule with two boys lacrosse games. The Division I prelim between No. 8 Nashua South and No. 9 Dover will be at Stellos Stadium at 1 p.m. while in Hollis, the No. 4 Cavaliers will host No. 5 St. Thomas at 5 p.m. in the Division II quarterfinals.
