The high school girls tennis season came to a screeching halt for five local teams, while another is waiting to get its postseason started.

The news was not good for Nashua North, Bishop Guertin, Hollis Brookline, Merrimack and Alvirne. Meanwhile, Souhegan, arguably the area’s best team at 14-0, had its Division II quarterfinal vs. No. 9 Bow rained out.

The teams will play today at 4 p.m. at Camp Young Judea, and the winner will take on No. 4 Winnacunnet on Tuesday. If Souhegan wins today, they will host the semis, otherwise Bow would go to Hampton.

Here’s a look at the matches that were played:

DIVISION I QUARTERFINALS

NO. 3 HANOVER 6, NO. 6 NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans saw singles wins from Mary Pappas (8-3) and Brielle Baxter (8-6) in singles. Pappas and Baxter teamed up in doubles to secure a 8-4 win as the season comes to an end.

NO. 4 PINKERTON 5, NO. 5 BISHOP GUERTIN 4

The Cards dropped five of six singles with only Lydia Miller getting a win to seal their fate vs. the Astros.

Ironically, they swept doubles with Georgie Howell/Miller (8-1), Jaclyn Krischunas/Dayana Cotito (8-3) and Faith Hebert/Aanya Shetty (8-3) coming out on top. Also, in a battle full of amazing matches, one of them was Howell rallying from a 3-6 deficit to 7-6 in singles, but ultimately fell short.

The Cards wind up an otherwise successful season at 10-5.

DIVISION II QUARTERINALS

NO. 4 WINNACUNNET 7, NO. 5 MERRIMACK 2

The Tomahawks (10-6) tourney run comes to an end after their loss to the Warriors. Cassidy Callahan won 9-7 and Avary Cruz won 8-5.

NO. 2 PORTSMOUTH 7, NO. 7 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Cavs had a rough showdown with the Clippers resulting in the end of their season. Anna Heiplik won 8-6 in singles and the team of Heiplik/Max Walsh won 8-4 in doubles.

NO. 6 TIMBERLANE 6, NO. 3 ALVIRNE 3

The Broncos didn’t play the Owls during the regular season, and the element of surprise went against them as their season ends at 12-3. Timberlane will now move on to face No.2 Portsmouth in the semis.

The Owls took four of six singles and two of three doubles. Winners for the Broncos were Ella Proulx (8-4) and Aliann Groux (9-7). Also the doubles teams of Emma Coppi/Sammie Schiller won 8-3.
