BATTLE ON TRACK: North boys, girls get Bridge wins over South

NASHUA – If Monday’s track meet was any indication, it should be quite a Battle for that Bridge this spring.

Nashua North grabbed both the boys and girls meets in the raw, damp conditions at Nashua High School South’s Fran Tate Track. The Titan girls won by the closest of margins – 78.50 to 78.0, while the boys were more in control, 100-72.

It was also a city meet, as Bishop Guertin competed, finishing third in both , 23.50 in girls and just nine points in the boys.

GIRLS MEET

Tiana Brown was a big factor for the Titans, as she won100 hurdles in 16.84 seconds and took the 100 dash in 12.96.

She then was part of the winning Titan 4×100 relay along with Sarah Frye, Allison Frye and Jhanelle Thomas in 50.95, and took second in the 200 in 27.28.

Thomas of course played a key role, winning the 400 in 59.65 with teammate Rosalie Neveu second in 1:01.42. She also won the 200 in 26.75

Allison Frye won the 300 hurdles (49.15) with Charlotte Wilson second (51.86). Titan Laura White took the 800 in 2:26.87. Allison Frye, Neveu, Thomas and Whit combined for a win in the 4×400 (4:21.19). Allie Dandeneau took the long jump at 15-5.50 and Sara Frye the triple jump at 33-2.25.

North’s Kathryn Azevedo was second in the high jump at 4-5

For South, Nina Somorrostro took the 3200 in 13:38.10. The Panthers got points in the field events, with Diamond Perry winning the high jump at 4-7. Emma Milette was first in the pole vault at 9-6 with Katie Perry second at 7-6.

Nora Gautieri won the shot put at 33-9.50 while teammate Chloe Cruz was second (30-0) and Vanessa Ortiz Cuevas third (29-5.75). Cruz also won the discus (109-6) with Gautieri second (93-10) and Ortiz Cuevas third (83-4).

Finally, South’s Gautieri won the javelin at 88-3 with teammate Caroline Kelly was second at 70-1.

Alejandra Chavarin was second on the 100 hurdles (18.53) , triple jump (31-5) and long jump (14-10) while Sarah Witta the same in the 100 dash (13.80). Ariana Marengo was second in the 800 in 2:34.87.

Guertin got its points by taking the top four spots in the 1600, won by Anna Fondakowski in 5:39.74 with the Cards’ Shannon Forsyth second in 5:41.95.

BG’s Elise Tribou was third in the high jump at 4-5.

BOYS MEET

North’s Kobe Perry won the 100 in 11.46 with teammate Luke Peters second in 11.48. Titan Gavin Suchecki took the 400 in 51.61, the high jump at 6-0, Mason Dandeneau took the 300 hurdles in 42.61 North’s Cole Burns won the 3200 in 10:20.82. Peters captured the long jump at 19-7 with teammate Sam Nardone second (18-6). The Titans took the top six spots. North dominated the triple jump as well, Josh Sullivan winning at 36-3.75 followed by Sam Nardone (35-7.75), and three other Titans.

The Titans also got a big win in the 4×400 relay with Aarron McNair, Dandeneau, Yaxiel Vazquez and Suchecki finishing at 3:37.21.

North took the top three shot put spots with Darius Smith first (53-3), Noah Pasterczyk second (48-8) and Zariel Cintron Arizmendi third (45-8).

Smith won the discus as well (137-4) and was second in the javelin (147-10).

Titan Tom White was second in the 1600 in 4:54.91, with Aaron McNair the same in the 800 (2:08.71). TayVon Moore was second in the pole vault at 9-0 in tiebreaker with teammate Christopher Holland.

South’s Preston Bois won the 110 hurdles in 16.32 and the pole vault at 12-0, and was second in the 300 hurdles in 43.82, while Daniel Byrne won the 1600 in 4:44.45

South’s 4×100 relay team of Leonel Lopez, Ryan Jansen, Tim Staveley and Marcell Perry captured the 4×100 relay in 43.80. Camdon Brien took the 800 in 2:08.23. South went 1-2-3-4 in the 200 with Marcell Perry winning (23.67) and Ryan Jansen second (23.72). Panther Sawyer Penny won the javelin at 147-10.

Panther Sergio Lopez was second in the 400 in 51.78. Panther Ryan DuVarney was second in the 3200 in 10:31.38. South’s Liam Gallagher was second in the discus (114-4).

Guertin’s Jake Daly was second in the high jump (5-7) with Sam Woodward third.

North has a 2-1 lead now in the Battle, with the next event Co-Ed Unified Track today, weather permitting, at South. Wednesday is a big day with six events, including the boys-girls lacrosse doubleheader at Stellos Stadium.
