HS Roundup: Locals shine in Frosh-Soph meet; South girls lax falls

It’s the meet where stars are born.
Several top local track and field athletes did big things in the annual Kiwanis Freshmen-Sophomore Meet in Salem, and that will likely be the case down the road after Saturday’s event.
That plus a couple of games as we wrap up vacation week and go back to a heavy high school schedule this coming week await your reading eyes:
FROSH-SOPH MEET
NORTH BOYS SECOND, GIRLS THIRD
The Nashua North boys scored 100 points, behind Kiwanis Meet winner Pinkerton (135).Merrimack was fourth (61), Alvirne (56) fifth, and Nashua South (29.5) sixth. Hollis Brookline (18) was seventh while Souhegan (14) was ninth. Milfod took 12th with 12.
For North, Owen Gagnon won the 1600 in 4:53.04, and TayVon Moore took the pole vault at 9-0. Jose Marcano won the shot put at 41-0.
Josh Sullivan was second in the 200 while Bunhour Chea took second in the 800 and long jump. Jacob Griffin was second in the 300. North was second in the 4×200 relay.
Nashua South’s Sergio Lopez won the 400 in 51.33 seconds, and Hollis Brookline’s Devin Gomes won the 300 hurdles in 43.33.
Alvirne’s foursome of Sam Oquist,Lief Erickson, Jeremiah Caraballo-Sophos and Ameer Salman won the 4×200 in 1.35.94. Caraballo-Sophos was first in the high jump (5-10) and Charles Barrett won the discus at 131-5.
Luke Felo was third for Merrimack in the 110 hurdles. Merrimack was second in the 4×800 relay, and Kaiden Okowuga took second in the high jump while Samuari Scott did the same in the triple jump. Andrew Minichiello was second in the shot put, 36-7.5.
Milford’s Chase Paiva was third in the 3200 while Souhegan’s Keenan Burke took second in the pole vault.
Girls Meet
North was third with 50 points, behind first place Pinkerton (125) and Concord (59). Souhegan (41.5) was fifth, Bishop Guertin sixth (35), Nashua South eighth (27) and Milford ninth (25) to round out the top 10. Merrimack was 11th (21), Alvirne 13th (14) and Hollis Brookline 16th (four).
For the Titans, Rosalie Neveu won the 800 in 2:24.08. North’s Charlotte Wilson was second in the 300 hurdles.
Guertin’s Bridget Powers was first in the 100 hurdles in 18.69 seconds andin the pole vault at 8-0. The Cards’ Gabby Gillette was second in the 200
Nashua South’s Ema Milette was third in the 300 hurdles. South’s Kiera Fischer,Nina Somorrostro, Emma Millette and Jada Buckmire was second in the 4×800 relay.
Merrimack’s Cassandra Jimeno was second in the high jump.
Souhegan’s Ainsley Dickinson won the discus at 67-7. Bella Preston was third in the 400 and the Sabers were second on the 4×200. Milford’s Rylee Coates was second in the 800 and Jaylyn Paul was second in the 3200.

BASEBALL
SALEM 6, NASHUA NORTH 3
Owen Forcier had three hits while Austin Suchecki, Mario Ramirez and Ty Byrne also had hits for the Titans despite the loss.
Now3-6, North is at Trinity on Monday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
PINKERTON 15, NASHUA SOUTH 7
The Panthers fell in Derry despite Lilee Petricca’s seven saves in goal plus two goals each by Carly Benzekri (assist) and Maren Lowell (two assists).
Addi Borden also had a goal for the Panthers (6-2), who are at Portsmouth on Monday.
