NASHUA – Games against Nashua South are never easy for the Merrimack High School boys lacrosse team, so head coach Brian Miller still wasn’t comfortable up 7-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
But his fears were unfounded,as the Tomahawks left Stellos Stadium on Friday with an 8-0 win to highlight a light school vacation Friday.
“I felt like it was a tight game,” Miller said, his Tomahawks now xxx. “South is so well coached. They do a number of things that are tough to defend.”
But the Tomahawks were able to solve them, led by Henry Tobin’s three goals and an assist. Peyton Connelly and Sean Anderson each had a goal and an assist, while Cayden Dine (goal, two assists) and Gabe Gorman and Gavin Hickey each had a goal.
“We’ve got shooters everywhere,” Miller said. “When we click, it’s solid; and sometimes we just struggle.”
Mason Tremblay had seven saves for Merrimack, now 5-3, while South fell to 3-5.
“We’re just getting away from doing what we should be doing,” South coach Will DeLanoy said. “And we’re playing a lot of defense. The middies are doing a lot on both ends and they get tired on the offensive end because they’ve played a bunch of ‘D’. So that’s never a good forumula for things. So we’ve just got to move on, learn from it, and figure out what we can do to right the ship for the next week.”
That ship takes them right to the Battle of Bridge vs. North on Wednesday at 4 p.m at Stellos.
The day was also special for the Tomahawks as Jake Miller saw his first action in over a year after battling cancer.
