HS Roundup: South girls win again; HOF ticket deadline today

The Nashua Hall of Fame virtual induction ceremony will be available on line and also on Nashua ETV on Saturday.

It’s been a great start to the season for Nashua High School South girls lacrosse, and even though they didn’t win, the Nashua North girls also showed a lot in their season opener.

Also, today is deadline day for those who want to purchase tickets for the Nashua Hall of Fame Induction. Here’s the news from an otherwise quiet Thursday:

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 15, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 4

Maren Lowell continued her scoring output with five goals (11 on the year) and an assist. Carly Benzekri had four goals and an assist. Addie Borden (three goals), Karina O’Donnell (two, eight draw controls) and Saige Devins (goal, two assists) also helped the offense.

Playng well defensively were Nevaeh Eppolito (three ground balls, three caused turnovers) and Karina Santana (four grounders), all in front of goalies Lile Petricca (four saves) and Emma Herlihy (three).

South takes on Bedford on Monday.

DOVER 3, NASHUA NORTH 1

The Titans hung in there against a tough Dover team at Stellos Stadium in their opener, with Molly Ducharme getting their lone goal. Mya Zibolis had five saves in goal while the Titan defense played well and the offense had a good day keeping possession.

The team was coached on an interim basis by Chad Zibolis, as Jenn Dyer was unavailable. “Coach Dyer did a great job putting this team together,” Zibolis said.

BOYS LACROSSE

PINKERTON 6, MERRIMACK 3

Hudson Rousseau, Gabe Gorman (with an assist) and Peyton Connelly all scored for Merrimack. Henry Tobin also had an assist while goalie Mason Tremblay collectd 16 saves.

Now 2-1, Merrimack travels to Keene on Monday.

BASEBALL

TRINITY 10, ALVIRNE 2

The Broncos fell to 0-3 after committing four errors leading to five unearned runs.It also didn’t help that they managed just two hits, RBI singles by Mikey Bebris and Brady Mitchell. Freshman Jasper Workman made his debut for Alvirne by pitching a scoreless inning and getting his first strikeout.

The Broncos are back at it on Monday at Windham.

GIRLS TENNIS

ALVIRNE 7, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Cavs (3-2) managed just on singles win, that by Anna Heiplik 8-5 at No. 2, and one doubles win by Heiplik/Max Walsh at No.1, 8-4.

The 3-1 Broncos won at singles Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 plus Nos 2 and 3 doubles.

HB is at Portsmouth today while Alvirne hosts Winnacunnet on Monday.

NASHUA HALL OF FAME INDUCTION TICKET DEADLINE TODAY

The deadline to purchase tickets for the May 18 Nashua Athletics Hall of Fame Induction is today.

Set to be inducted are the late former Nashua High athletic director Al Harrington, former Nashua South administrative assistant Diane Keene, former Nashua High coaches Bill Hardy (football) and George Noucas (basketball), former North track athlete Shalyn Johnson, former South three sport athlete Caitlin Ackerman, former Nashua High three-sport standouts Aaron Gureckis,Sarah Neville Guadiano, and Jamie Franks, plus former Nashua High football and track athlete Matt Sheehan.

The induction ceremony will take place at the Courtyard Marriott in Nashua on Sunday May 18 beginning at noon.
