HS Roundup: North baseball, others swing into spring

Opening Day for the bulk of the spring high school sports season had plenty of twists and turns.There was good news for Nashua North baseball, South lacrosse, Souhegan and Merrimack girls lacrosse, Merrimack boys lacrosse, and plenty of others.
Here’s a look at what truly was a manic Monday, the first of several in the weeks ahead:
BASEBALL
NASHUA NORTH 6, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 1
Owen Mercier had a great Opening Day for the Titans at Gill Stadium, allowing one run over six innings on the mound while striking out seven. And at the plate he went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Also for North, Rhyan Garon went 2 for 3 with two triples and Mario Ramirez went 2 for 4. North returns to Gill on Wednesday night to face Manchester Memorial.
GOFFSTOWN 6, ALVIRNE 3 (10 innings)
Mikey Bebris tossed seven innings of two-run ball (one earned) and smacked a two-run homer, but the Broncos, one pitch or one hit away from a win, fell in extra innings. Alvirne is at Concord on Wednesday.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, BOW 1
Paul Gehan’s two run homer in the sixth snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Cavs an opening win over the defending Division II champions. Dylan Morelli, who pitched five two-hit, one-run innings striking out seven, also knocked in a run. Thomas Howie went 2 for 2 while Tyler Gryniewicz, Connor Gryniewicz and Matt Bergin all had hits as well. HB hosts Kennett on Wednesday.
SOFTBALL
BISHOP GUERTIN 8,CONCORD 6
A great start for the visiting Cards. Bella Nutting and Gabby Gillette both had 2 hit with Gillette leading off and dtarting the season with an inside the park homerfor one of her three RBIs.
Avery Zapanas thrhadthree innings letting up four hits and one run, freshman Bailey Brisk pitched the next two (no runs, three hits, stuck out one and no walks). Jenny Davey finished the game.
PINKERTON 10, NASHUA SOUTH 3
The Panthers got a solo inside-the-park homer fro Cara Leblond but it wasn’t enough. Cate Marvin had a tough day in the circle, allowing all 10 Astro runs (seven earned) on 12 hits. Leblond, Brooke Berger, Brooke Koskela and Emily Richard had a hit apiece for the Panthers, who are at Exeter on Wednesday.
MILFORD 7, CAMPBELL 0
Arabelle Danforth went 4 for 4 with two doubles and three stolen bases to pace the Spartans in the season opener for both.
Alivia Mazzeo got the shutout win in the circle, allowing seven hits with eight striketouts and no walks. She also went 3 for 3 at the plate.
BOW 4, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0
Abigail Wallis only allowed two earned runs over seven innings but the Cavaliers had too many mistakes in the field and could only muster a single each by Emily Tebbetts and Ashley Disco.
GIRLS LACROSSE
SOUHEGAN 16, CONCORD 1
The Sabers couldn’t have asked for a better opener, as Libby Kennedy led the way with six goals, two draw controls, two ground ball pickups, and two caused turnoers. Izzy Stevenson (two goals, five assists, five draw controls, four caused turnovers, one ground ball), Averie Curan (four goals, one grounder, one turnover) Lanai Hickman (two goals, one assists, two grounders), Abby Giannetti (goal, two assists, two ground balls), Emersynn Curran )one goal, two draws, one ground, turnovers), Natalie Heimarck (four grounders, one draw), Eme Godin (three grounders, two turnovers), Sophie Jcobs (three grounders, one turnover), Eva Stiles (one ground ball), Marly Bacon (one turnover) and Maddie Behn (one grounder) all contributed.
Souhegan is at Salem on Friday.
MERRIMACK 11, HANOVER 10 (OT)
The Tomahawks, down 8-4 at the half, rallied for a dramatic season opening win as Jackie Hayes, assisted by Ava Martin, scored the game winner in OT. Ava Martin’s five goals led the way while Payton Trepaney, Hayes and Riley Taylor all had two goals.
Trepaney and Lexi Bell ahd two assists while Hayes added three and Brooklynn Hilyard andRiley Taylor one apiece. Martin and Taylor had nine and eight draw controls respectively, while Summer Dalbec-Joyal and Trepaney each had six ground ball pickups.
CAMPBELL 12, PEMBROKE 8
Zoey Bourque had a big day for the Cougars with seven goals and two assists, while Ava Grant added three goals and an assist.
Also contributing were Lillie Wilson (two goals, two assists) ad goalie Rania Chaudhry (nine saves).
KEENE 14, ALVIRNE 8
The Broncos were encouraged by their effort despite the loss, as Cadence Bice had four goals, Audriena Chipperini added three and Julia Regency had one. Goaltender Fiona Duggan had 16 saves.
BOYS LACROSSE
NASHUA SOUTH 8, MANCHESTER 1
The Panthers grabbed a 4-0 lead by halftime and never looked back to capture their season opener.
Owen Roy had four goals while Broden Landsteiner had a goal and an assist.
Tyler Benzekri had a goal, 10 ground ball pickup and nine caused turnovers.
Jake Lynn had seven saves in net
MERRIMACK 18, NASHUA NORTH 6
The Tomahawks were in control, led by Henry Tobin and Hudson Rousseau, each with four goals. Sean Anderson (three goals, assist), Peyton Connely (two goals), Max Giles (two goals), Nataniel Bergen (goal), Gabe Gorman (goal, assist) and Caycen Dine (goal, three assists) all helped out; Gorman and Landon Leblanc had their first varsity goals.
Mason Tremblay and Seamus Hickey split time in goal for the ‘Hawks, who next host Chelmsford, Mass. on Wednesday.
For North, Nico Bottari and Dylan Noble each had two goals while Jack Krulikowski had an assists. Josh Parsons had 16 saves for the Titans, who are at Dover on Friday.
COE-BROWN 15, MILFORD 2
It was a tough opener for the Spartans, but Dylan McLeod had two goals and Tyler Ireland recorded an assist. Rocco Bartling had 12 saves in goal.
CAMPBELL 2 SOUHEGAN 1
Zac Hannah and Ayden McGrath scored for the Couagars while goalie Will O’Brien had nine saves in the defensive struggle.
Ayden McGrath had the Sabers’ lone goal while netminder Sean Reardon had a great game with 11 saves.
Defensive standouts for Souhegan were Reid Kimball and Jared Kershaw.
GIRLS TENNIS
NASHUA NORTH 5, SALEM 4
The North No. 1 doubles team of Mary Pappas/Brielle Baxter made the difference with the fifth point, winning 8-3.
The Titans took four singles: Pappas at No. 1 (8-0), Baxter at No.2 (8-4), Lena Srinivas at No. 3 and Gabi Desjardins at No. 4 (both 8-3). North hosts Manchester Memorial on Friday.
SOUHEGAN 9, GOFFSTOWN 0
The Sabers are now 4-0 as they swept the Grizzlies, with singles wins by Callie Perrin (8-0), Tess Jancar (8-0), Ori Dart (8-0), Caroline Drum (8-0), Sophia Yates (8-1) and Emma Perrin (8-0). Yates/Perrin (8-3), Leary/Hycuna (8-3) and A. Jubinville/E. Paraschanka (8-3) prevailed in doubles.
The Sabers host Alvirne on Wednesday.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6, PEMBROKE 3
The Cavs took five of six singles to clinch before doubles, with wins by Anna Heiplik (8-0), Sapph Sidhu (8-6), Ava Porto (8-6), Max Walsh (8-2) and Brynn Spencer (8-2). Heiplik/Porto won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3.
HB is at Alvirne today.
BOYS TENNIS
Salem 6, NASHUA NORTH 3
The visiting Titans wins were by Connor McInerney at No. 2 (8-3), Domingo Reynoso at No. 4 (8-6) and Jeet Panchal at No. 6 (8-3).
WINNACUNNET 9, MERRIMACK 0
The Tomahawks (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season. Nithin Sathappan at No. 4 (8-6) and Lucas Goldberg at No. 6 (9-7) suffered close losses.
Merrimack is at Bow on Wednesday.
