HS Roundup: BG girls win; Kings end streak; local wrestlers shine

Wins have been few and far between for the Bishop Guertin girls hockey team this season, but the Cards celebrated their seniors in style with their second straight win on Saturday at Skate 3. Meanwhile, the Nashua North-Souhegan skaters are still seeking that first win while South-Pelham ended a five-game winless stretch.
Plus, tons of wrestling multi team meet action with the locals on the final weekend of the regular season.
Here’s your Saturday rundown:
GIRLS HOCKEY
BISHOP GUERTIN 2, SALEM 0
Carly Green and Grace Spengler each had a goal and an assist while Haley Gagne added an assist. Scar Casey got the shutout in goal for the Cards, now 4-10. They are at East Catholic on Monday.
BOYS HOCKEY
NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 3, SOMERSWORTH/COE-BROWN 1
The Kings snapped a five game winless streak with a big win on the road.
Now 3-9-1, South-Pelham is at Salem on Wednesday.
GOFFSTOWN 5, NASHUA NORTH-SOUHEGAN 1
Connor O’Neil scored the lone goal for the locals, now 0-12. Andrew Cullinane got the assist.
Tony Venzia had 16 saves for N-S in a game in which the teams had a combined 20 penalties (12 on Goffstown). The Saber-Titans were unable to take advantage of several 5 on 3 opportunities. North-Souhegan is at Keene on Monday.
MERRIMACK-HB-DERRYFIELD 2, MANCHESTER 0
Alex Gertz got two goals with assists going to Jackson Woods, Will Farrell and Alex May as the WarHawks improved to 9-4-2.
James Brew had 27 saves in the net for the locals, who host Timberlane on Wednesday.
WRESTLING
BISHOP GUERTIN SPLITS
The Cards fell to Keene, 67-9 but beat Mascenic, 42-18. In the Keene match, Jack Foser got an 8-1 decision at 150.
Against Mascenic, winners were Wesley Steinruck at 106 (14-9 decision), Austin Steinruck at 126 (technical fall 20-2), Foster at 150 (pin), Peter Cerrato at 157 (major decision 9-0).
MERRIMACK DROPS TWO
The Tomahawks fell to Windham 41-24 and Winnisquam 76-4. In the latter match, Owen Sayball got a major decision (13-2) at 126. Merrimack’s points vs. Windham were via forfeits.
PELHAM 41, ALVIRNE 33
The Broncos in the Hollis duals got wins from Tim O’Malley at 120 (pin), Aiden Nehiley at 132 (pin), Joe Lydon at 157 (5-3 decision), Shawn Boudreau at 215 (pin) and Kylar Cox at 106 (pin).
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 43, PORTSMOUTH 33
Cav non-forfeit wins were by Hunter Knight at 126 (tech fall 18-2), Jacob Critchfield at 157 (tech fall 16-0), Martin Burns at 165 (pin), Daniel Hallas at 190 (9-8 decision).
WINNISQUAM 48, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 33
Still at the Cavalier Classic, the Cavs got wins by Jameson Keller at 120 (major decision 17-3), Caden Bruseo at 138 (pin), Daniel Frixione at 150 (tech fall17-2), Critchfield at 157 (pin)and Daniel Hallas at 215 (pin).
MILFORD PLACES 3 AT JV MEET
The Spartans had three place at the JV state meet: Colton Schuster second at 113, Devin Woods second at 141, and Carter Beebe third at 132.
