Once the Division I high school track teams exit Plymouth State University with their hardware, etc. today, the Division II teams will take their spot.
The meet, due to the inclement weather expected for part of the state overnight tonight into early Sunday, was moved from Sunday to later today.
Will any local teams be winning titles? Perhaps. The Milford boys are considered one of a handful of teams that have a shot at winning it all. In the girls meet, however, Oyster River is said to be a clear-cut favorite. Hollis Brookline is a second place contender along with the likes of Sanborn, Hanover, Bow and Belmont.
The boys meet may come down, as may do, to the relays. The Spartans are the favorite and top seed (as well as defending champ) in the 4×800; Souhegan is the favorite in the 4×400 while it could come down to the 4×200.
The 55 dash could be a battle between locals Sam Bruneau of Hollis Brookline and Milford’s Avery Wilson. Wilson is a contender in the 300 while Milford’s Will Whitley is the top seed in the 600. That’s a lot of points already for the Spartans, and to add to it, Logan Korthals is the top seed in the 1000 meters and he leads the Spartans as the top seed in the 4×800 relay.
Souhegan is one of the contenders in the 4×200 relay and the top seed in the 4×400.
The Sabers Owen Pisinski is seeded second in the high jump, while teammate John Katsel is No. 1 in the long jump.
So expecte a big local presence.
Now, in the girls, local athletes to watch are HB’s Grace Dow in the 55 hurdles and 300 (along with Souhegan’s Ori Dart in the latter). HB’s Molly Reardon could score in the 1000,and the Cavs will give it a go in the 4×200 and 4×400 relays, and could even get points in the 4×800. Campbell’s Bridgette Hidalko and Milford’s Zoe Rick will look to score in the shot put.
