HS Roundup: Souhegan wrestlers top Milford; BG skaters win

It was quite a night at Milford High School as two unbeatens – the Spartans and rival Souhegan – in Division II wrestling met, and it was Alumni Night to boot.

A great crowd, and competitive performance.

Who won? You’ll have to read on to see, and also check out hockey news on a second straight heartbreaking loss for the Nashua South-Pelham Kings, but big wins for Bishop Guertin and Alvirne-Milford.

Here’s the rundown:

WRESTLING

SOUHEGAN 45, MILFORD 24

The visiting Sabers prevailed with a string of victories in the middle weights. Overall their winners were Kyle Sukcharoenphon at 106 (pin), Jack Kaler at 126 (technical fall 16-0), Ben Smiley at 138 (tech fall 17-0), Chase Knuckles at 150 (tech fall 21-3), Alex Sarfde at 157 (pin), Noah Daily at 165 (tech fall 16-0), Darwin Bown at 175 (7-4 decision) and Gabriel Holt at 215 (pin).

Milford winners included J.J. Enright at 113 (pin), Kane Davis at 120 (pin), Max Hammerstrom at 132 (9-5 decision), Nate Post at 190 (5-0 decision) and heavyweight Brandon Leeman (pin).

WINNACUNNET 50, BISHOP GUERTIN 29

The visiting Cards only managed wins by James Algeo at 132 (pin), Dominic Stamp at 138 (pin), Pete Cerrato at 157 (tech fall 15-0) and two forfeits.

BOYS HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 8, BEDFORD 0

The Cards are on a roll, winners of four straight as they improved to 8-3 behind two goals apiece by Noah Cordiero, Jordan Delude and Gavin Santos. Cordiero and Delude also each had an assist.

Other goals were by Will McBournie and Ryan Mogielnicki (also an assist)

James Mantone had two assists, and Jack Menicci, Cam Miller, Cam Auger and Sean Hughes had one each.

Conor Hayes had 15 saves in goal for the Cards, who host Londonderry on Saturday.

GOFFSTOWN 4, NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 3 (OT)

Goffstown’s Tyler Lessard scored 19 seconds into sudden death overtime as the Kings suffered their second straight extra period loss to fall to 2-8.

Andrew Byrne, Kaden Cruz, Gavin Asimakopulos all scored for the locals, the latter tying the game early in the third period.

Ethan Robinson had 23 saves in goal for South-Pelham, who host Exeter on Saturday at Conway Arena.

ALVIRNE-MILFORD 9, TIMBERLANE 2

Brandon Ganas had two goals plus an assist plus Logan Howard got his first varsity goals (two) as the visiting Admirals broke out after a scoreless first period to improve to 9-3 and clinch a Division II playoff spot.

Brandon Callahan, Mason Tomkins, Braydon Atwood, Dylan MacLeod, and Evan Pargas all scored.

Assists on the night were Cam Cook, Bryce Larco and Brandon Callahan (two each), Brandon Hiltz, and Ryan Sutton all had assists. Mason Komarek had 15 saves in goal.

The Admirals sail north to face Bishop Brady-Merrimack Valley on Saturday.

GIRLS HOCKEY

EXETER 5, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The visiting Cards difficult season continued as they fell to 2-9 with their fifth straigtht defeat. It doesn’t get any easier as they host Hanover on Saturday night.
