HS Roundup: BG tops Concord in OT; Milford, Cards wrestlers excel

It definitely felt like winter on Saturday so it makes sense that the biggest local high school win of the day came by a boys hockey team, right?
The Cardinals of Bishop Guertin pulled that off on the road. Meanwhile, plenty of wrestling and track results – this was the final qualifying day of the indoor track season before next weekend’s state championships.
Let’s take a look:
BOYS HOCKEY
BISHOP GUERTIN 2, CONCORD 1 (OT)
Gavin Santos scored at 3:13 of sudden death overtime as the Cards improved to 7-3 in Division I and avenged a 5-1 loss to the Tide two weeks ago.
James Mantone gave BG a 1-0 lead in the second period, assisted by Santos and Jordan O’Hearn.
Concord’s Cam Roy tied it in the third period.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
WACHUSETT 62, BISHOP GUERTIN 54
The Cards fell behind 22-12 and it was an uphill climb at Emmanuel College in Boston.
They trailed 34-22 at the break and couldn’t put a dent into the lead the rest of the way. BG was the victim of 25 points by Wachusett’s Jaelynn Scott.
Thalia Drapeau and Laura Marino had nine points apiece.
WRESTLING
THREE WINS FOR BG
The Cards had won of their best days of the season, beating Manchester Memorial 43-17, Manchester Central 54-24, and host Pelham 48-34.
Those who won three matches were Wesley Steinruck at 106, Austin Stinruck (126), James Algeo (132), Dominick Stamp (138), Jack Foster (150) and Bishop Kearns (285). Peter Cerrato won two at 157 while Finn Murphy (144) and Ayla Saeturn (165) each won a mach.
MILFORD DOES WELL IN QUAD MEET
The Spartans handled Masenic and Kearsarge. Against Mascenic, pins were by Kiki Lordan (126), Max Hammerstrom (132), Cam Stickney (138), Noah Kittredge (165), and Nate Post (190). Jayce Wilhelmi won 17-1 in a technical fall.
Against Kearsarge, pin wins were by Stickney, Phil Wright (150), Wilhelmi and Post.
BOYS & GIRLS TRACK
SOUTH BOYS, NORTH GIRLS EXCEL IN TUNEUP
The Panthers got a first from Marcell Perry in the 55 dash (6.66 seconds), The Panthers are one of the strongest relay teams in the state, and the foursome of Matthew Motherway, Andrew Thibeault, Ryan DuVarney and Camdon Brien won the 4×800 in 8:41.11. South’s Ray Karuru was third in the shot put.
Nashua North’s Darius Smith won the shot put at 54-06.00 while Noah Pasterczyk was second. Aaron McNair was second in the 600 and Gavin Suchecki the same in the high jump.
Alvirne’s Shane Plumley won the 600 meters in 1:28.05
Bishop Guertin’s Carson Fischer was second in the 1000 while Ethan Fisher did the saem in the 1500. Tyler Parshay was third in the 55 dash.
Merrimack got a second from Luca Kabel in the 300.
In the girls meet, North’s Laura White was first in the 1000 while Allie Dandeneau captured the long jump (16-00.25) Jahnelle Thomas and was second n the 55 dash.
North’s Tiana Brown was second in the 55 hurdles and third in the 55 dash and 300. Rosalie Neveu was third in the 1000.
South’s Nora Gautieri captured the shot put. Panther Natalee Thomas took second in the 300 while Panther Alejandra Chavarin was third in the long jump.
Merrimack’s Melanie Bedard was second in the 1500. Bishop Guertin’s Lyla Masson was third. The Cards’ Gabby Gillette was third in the high jump.
MILFORD, HB DO WELL
Milford’s Avery Wilson won the 300 in 36.99 and Logan Korthals captured the 1000 in 2:40.80 in the UNH morning meet.
HB got a second in the 55 dash from Sam Bruneau.
In the girls meet, HB’s Grace Dow captured the 55 hurdles in 8.84 seconds. Souhegan’s Anora Swanson was second in the long jump.
