The Winter Battle of the Bridge between Nashua High Schools North and South continues tonight with perhaps the biggest event, the girls-boys varsity basketball doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. (girls) followed by the boys shortly after 7.

The North boys are having a rough time at 3-8, having lost five straight despite nearly upsetting Portsmouth in OT three nights ago, while the Panthers are 8-3, but the Titans beat South in the Holiday Tournament finals, 47-44. “I don’t care what their record is,” South’s Nate Mazerolle said. “They always play their best against us.”

In the girls game, both teams are playing well going in. South is 6-5 with two straight wins, while North is even better, 6-4 with four straight wins. The Titans also beat South in the Holiday Tourney consolation game.

The Bridge stands right now at 6-5 North after the Titans swept the day on Thursday, winning boys freshmen and JV basketball as well as girls JV ball, plus the Co-Ed Unified Game, that one in OT.

Details of that game plus another win for the BG girls, ski results, and some good news on North-Souhegan Dylan O’Neil await your eyes:

CO-ED UNIFIED BASKETBALL

NASHUA NORTH 45, NASHUA SOUTH 41 (OT)

Jaiden Figueroa had 23 points, including the last six for the Titans. South’s Hunter St. Onge sent the game to OT with a 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation, and Nicholas Balkan had a basket to give South a brief 41-39 lead in the extra session. Both teams begin NHIAA tourney play on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 68, MERRIMACK 16

The Cards cruised behind Holly Dufoe’s 13 points and 11 from Jas Rosario.

Guertin (8-3, five straight wins) led 23-3 after one quarter and held the Tomahawks without a field goal in the first half. Merrimack (1-10) was led by Meghan McCarthy with six points. The ‘Hawks host Dover on Tuesday while BG takes on Wachusett on Saturday at Emmanuel College in Boston.

BOYS HOCKEY

NORTH-SOUHEGAN GOALIE HOME AND OK

Saber-Titans goaltender Dylan O’Neil, according to multiple sources – including a family member — is home and doing OK after suffering an apparent head injury at the end of Wednesday night’s Battle of the Bridge won by South-Pelham 4-1. The Saber-Titans practiced as usual on Thursday at Conway Arena, and at the start knelt on the ice in a huddle with coach Chris Zarlenga, who apparently gave the players a positive update as they hit their sticks on the ice, hockey’s version of a cheer.
